To those of you who print mokuhanga - what's your favorite paper and where do you get it?

Good question, Mike! I used to get most of my paper from Woodlike Matsumura. Never bought a paper I didn't like from him, but he's not taking orders from overseas anymore. A couple of years ago I started using Kitaro Washi papers, especially Kizuki Hanga and Kozoshi, but the company seems to be severely backlogged. My last order is still outstanding after more than 3 months.

I like McClain's Echizen Kozo a lot (thick, fluffy, and luminous), but it's expensive. I've been experimenting with some of the papers from Washi Arts (US Distributor for JPP) but haven't located a "favorite" yet. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has purchased from Ozu Washi if they've found a good mokuhanga paper there. https://ozuwashi.com/

All in all I'm discouraged and thinking of taking after Matt Brown and switching to western paper.

When the Baren mall was still open and you could get good paper I used handmade Japanese kozo but after my stock ran out I turned to Rives (not BFK) after seeing Matthew Brown’s prints. Available at Blick’s the Rives Heavy at 175gms comes in white & cream and several sheet size options. My favorite is 19x26 inches. The Rives light at 115gms is a bit light IMO but I sometimes use it for small sized prints when heavy is not available.
