Ben Bauermeister
has had his fingers in type for over 30 years. In 1982 he began work
on a visual classification system for type and in 1987 the PANOSE
Typographic Classification System was published. Since then he has
worked with Aldus, Microsoft, Bitstream, ITC, Linotype, Monotype,
Hewlett Packard, Adobe, Amazon, and Google on various components of
their typographic systems. Ben is an entrepreneur, a graphical artist,
an active community volunteer, and member of the Jefferson County
population for over 20 years.
Owen Rowe’s
first job in type was helping American Type Founders in their desperate
last attempt to enter the digital type market in the 1980s. He moved
onward and upward to Apple, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, and Monotype
before moving out to pursue other paths as a literary translator and an
arts and education organizer, though always keeping words and letters at
the center. He’s lived in Port Townsend off and on since 1997.
Anyone with an interest in printing, binding, and other book arts is welcome.
