June Featured Artists
Sally Pfaff & Brian Iverson
Sally Pfaff’s imagined landscapes are semi-abstract expressions of the natural world. Her paintings are not prescribed landscapes, and her intention is to encourage an exchange between the viewer and the painting; a dynamic representation in which the viewer can create their own experience. She draws her inspiration from the natural forms, shapes, and colors that catch her attention. Capturing the movement of water or the shapes of rocks without compromising authenticity is important to her. In the end she hopes to achieve a balance point where abstraction and reality meet. Sally’s process involves an intuitive, free-form approach. The first applications of paint are more spontaneous gestures and from these a rough composition transpires. Her exploratory techniques allow for varied textures, watercolor-like layers, a sense of movement, and colorful compositions. One might use the term “painterly abstraction,” a style of painting that’s characterized by gestures and expressiveness. For June art walk Sally has created large waterscapes that evoke the many moods of water. Additionally, she has singular pieces with expressive rock structures and spring trees in bloom inspired by the Madronas in Fort Worden State Park.
Brian Iverson first met and collaborated with other glass artists in the late 1990s. A nearly 30-year Jefferson County resident, Brian designs and produces glass sculpture and functional work in collaboration with his wife, Rebecca and daughter Iris. Brian spends a lot of time exploring the outdoors; his exhibit this June is inspired by the peace he finds in natural spaces. The return of bird song reaffirms our connection to the natural world and to each other. Brian’s offerings at Port Townsend Gallery include large, fluted bowls, paperweights, gazing balls and lampworked sculpture. The gallery also features garden art in the outdoor space. Brian has exhibited at Port Townsend Gallery since 2022 and is a weekly vendor at the Jefferson County Farmers Market. Brian spent the winter of 2025/26 relocating his operation to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. He’s currently working with another local glass artist, offering blow your own glass experiences. Brian also had great success teaching an introduction to flameworking course at Northwind’s Art School in March 2026. Classes at the fairgrounds are ongoing-interested students can stop by the Port Townsend Gallery for further information.
