This free lunchtime concert is on the lawn of the Nora Porter Commons at Fort Worden in Port Townsend. Weather in July is usually nice, but in the rare event of inclement weather, an alternative venue will be posted at Centrum.org.

Chris Bickley has performed in concerts and jazz festivals throughout the world … Montreux International Jazz Festival, Montreux, Switzerland, Carnegie Hall “Jazz Cavalcade” series, North Sea Jazz Festival, The Hague, Netherlands, Bix Beiderbecke Festival, Davenport, Iowa, and the Detroit Montreux Jazz Festival. A graduate of the internationally acclaimed Interlochen Arts Academy, he has served as the Director of Jazz at Central Michigan University and Northwestern Michigan College. Chris has performed with many jazz legends including: Woody Hermans Thundering Herd, Herbie Hancock, and leads his own Jazz groups and Big Band. Chris moved to Washington state in 2019.

The band also includes Chuck Easton on bass. Chuck is a graduate of Boston’s Berklee College of Music in 1980. He has played many different styles of music over the years, but bebop-influenced jazz is his favorite. Chuck has been teaching private music lessons at Crossroads music in Pt. Townsend, Washington, since 1995, with students of all ages on flute, trombone, saxophone, guitar, bass, piano and clarinet.

For many years he has been on faculty for Centrum’s Jazz Pt. Townsend and the NW Big Band, where he was the conductor for a number of years. Chuck continues to play locally on guitar, bass, flute, alto and tenor saxophone and occasionally Eb tuba and trombone. He plays in duos, trios, quartets, quintets and has a septet which plays both jazz and R&B dance music with vocals and a horn section.

On keyboards is George Radebaugh. George received a degree in music composition from U.C.S.B he headed to the Pacific Northwest to pursue his real interests in jazz improvisation. He has been playing jazz and other genres with numerous musicians and bands on the Olympic and Kitsap peninsulas for more than 30 years.

Rounding out the band on drums is Tom Svornich. Tom is from Bainbridge Island originally, played in blues and R& B bands in San Francisco and Seattle for many years before moving to the Olympic peninsula where he’s been a central part of the local music scene for the last 22 years.
