My heart is Good Reading and Conversation with Port Gamble S’Klallam elder Ron Charles and publisher Holly J. Hughes. 2-4 p.m., Saturday, March 14
Join us for a reading and conversation with Port Gamble S’Klallam elder and former tribal chair Ron Charles, author with anthropologist Josh Wisniewski of My Heart Is Good, Treaty rights and the Rise of a S’Klallam Fishing Community. This book traces the historical arc of the Port Gamble S’Klallam from treaty signing to the landmark 1974 Boldt Decision that affirmed tribal fishing rights in Washington State to the growth of today’s S’Klallam commercial fishing fleet. Their success was an outgrowth of the persistence of Billy Frank Jr. and others who fought for treaty rights.
Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Avenue Port Townsend. Hosted by Native Connections Action Group & Empty Bowl Press. Connect with us for a fun evening with other local history and book lovers! After the talk, buy a book and enjoy snacks and conversation.
