Key City Public Theatre
419 Washington Street, 98368
The Creative District is partnering with the Port Townsend Film Festival and Key City Public Theatre for a free screening of the film Lords of Dogtown.
Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Twilight) and starring Heath Ledger, Emile Hirsh, and Victor Rasuk, this 2005 biographical drama follows the lives of the the Z-Boys, a legendary group of teenage surfers from Venice Beach, California. Set in the 1970s, it portrays how this ragtag crew revolutionized skateboarding by applying aggressive, wave-riding styles to empty backyard swimming pools, transforming a hobby into a global sport. Written by Stacy Peralta (one of the original Z-Boys) and featuring cameos by numerous well-known skaters, the film is rooted in a true story that changed skateboarding forever.
Note that this movie is rated PG-13 for teen smoking, drinking, drug use, foul language, sexual activity, and violence, and is recommended for audiences 15+ by Common Sense Media.
This special event is happening to celebrate the Seamus Sims Skate Park Mural Project and spread the word about the Public Artist Presentations on Tuesday, June 23rd at the Cotton Building. Find more at: https://ptcreativedistrict.org/dogtown/
