Sat.-Sun. March 7 and 8: Textile Origami, a fabric workshop at Northwind Art, is open to all experience levels. Find out more and sign up at https://northwindart.org. Then, you'll begin with a single stitch — to step by step turn flat fabric into an architectural wonder. Teaching artist Kristine Berg will guide you through this meditative practice, which is reminiscent of paper origami yet rendered in soft textiles that ripple with light and shadow. For this workshop — open to older teens and adults — all you need to know is how to thread a needle.
With a ruler, needle, and thread, we'll follow measured pathways to transform fabric into sculptural shapes that echo land forms, waves, and basketry. After experimenting and looking at our options, we will choose your favorite sample and appliqué it to a pre-made cushion cover. Image: example of textile origami.
