· Olena Zhukova (Kyiv, Ukraine), harpsichord
· Mélisande Corriveau (Montreal), pardessus de viole

Olena Zhukova performs widely in Ukraine and abroad as the most prominent Ukrainian harpsichordist and a champion of the vibrant arts scene in Ukraine during these difficult times. She arrived from Warsaw, having traveling there by train from Kyiv as she so often does, traveling in and out and all around Ukraine spreading her gift. The secret of her courage, her persistent dedication to music, is so clear. It is joy and compassion for others, as so clearly motivates Susie and Melisande as well, and this moving program demonstrates this so beautifully, with each piece on our program including an exquisite chaconne. Perfect for post-Valentine's Day!
...with fabulous narration by Susie Napper!
Wild controversy surrounded the stylistic chasm between the French and Italian styles that were debated so vociferously in France during the early years of the 18th century. In 1695 the Sun King's music Librarian André Danican Philidor l'ainé arranged some of the most highly esteemed French works for performance in a chamber music setting, and lo and behold, included are three trio sonatas by the Italian Archangelo Corelli, making clear that even in the closest circles around the king the Italian was deeply admired. So we'll include one of Corelli's trio sonatas alongside other selections from this "Collection of Several Beautiful pieces of Instrumental Music" ("Recueil de Plusieurs Belles Pieces de Simphonie") by Philidor.
Our program for this most unusual and sonorous ensemble of instruments that would have been commonplace during the early decades of the 18th century in France will include both a harpsichord solo and a duo for pardessus de viol and viola da gamba by Louis Couperin. And trio sonatas by Louis-Antoine Dornel, André Cheron and Marin Marais.
The rarely heard pardessus de viole is the highest-pitched member of the fretted viol family of stringed instruments, corresponding to the violin but played in the lap, alongside the viola da gamba or bass viol, also fretted like a guitar and with a range approximating that of the cello.
Let's welcome Olena, Susie and Mélisande.
