Nagy Diófa utca 30.
Budapest, Hungary
The last Thursday of every month
enjoy English Poetry evenings at Massolit!
This week: Poet Andrew Singer
celebrates 20 years in Budapest with a reading of original verse, featuring a
premiere of his new work, “Tribes”, a poignant look at the fascinating variety
and complexity of our beautiful world.
Here is some more info from this week's Budapest Times about this event:
Andrew Singer has been entertaining audiences on 3 continents for years. Mr.
Singer is a graduate of Boston University’s Creative Writing Program, where his
main teacher was Nobel Prize recipient Derek Walcott, who said of his pupil's
poetry that it “sounds better than it looks.” The Boston Avant Garde Society
wrote that Singer could be “one of the greatest English-language poets of this
generation.”
Mr. Singer has worked for years as a guest lecturer in poetry at universities
throughout Hungary, including four years on the faculty of ELTE English
Department teaching advanced seminars in English verse to Master’s candidates.
His original verse and translations from Hungarian have appeared locally in
such publications as Pilvax and Hungarian Quarterly; he is also a former Poetry
Editor of the acclaimed literary quarterly Trafika, based in Prague and New
York. And he has just become the newest host of the long-running Budapest
poetry series The Bardroom.
With its cloying mixture of sometimes formal rhythms and hypermodern themes,
wry humor and sensual observation of the beauty and strangeness of the world
around us, Andrew Singer’s poems are guaranteed to delight and challenge.
