Sentinel Hub services are providing long-term analysis in an efficient way. We keep EO Browser, our showcase of Sentinel Hub functionality free to use, to make these features available to just about anyone. Some of the most exciting new EO Browser features are collected in our Medium blog posts from March 2020, July 2020, August 2021, February 2022 and August 2022.

EO Browser allows you to visualize satellite data from numerous satellites and data collections instantly. The process in the background takes care of the selection of appropriate scenes, download and processing of data, as well as mosaic creation. Browsing satellite data has never been so easy!

To make it even more exciting, we have prepared a special education mode of EO Browser, where you can explore 12 unique themes, with the selected locations of interest and chosen visualizations. This EO content is perfect for students and teachers or anyone interested to explore satellite data.

By choosing Custom it is possible to choose any combination of bands and make a composite by simply drag and dropping the bands into the RGB channels. On the image below,Danakil Depression has been visualized using SWIR, RED and BLUE bands of Sentinel-2.

Our custom script functionality is a powerful tool for visualizing satellite data. Using Javascript, you have full control over your visualization, allowing you to make computations, logical operators and conditions, data fusion, multitemporal scripting, etc. You could for example calculate the snow index and display only the pixels you calculated to be snow as blue, and return all the remaining pixels in natural color.

Data fusion makes it possible to combine satellite data collections in a single image, take advantage of each, and bring your scripting to a new level. In this example, you can see Sevastopol area, with cloudy pixels returned in Sentinel-1, which penetrates clouds, and the rest in Sentinel-2 true color. Read more about data fusion in our Medium blog post.

EO Browser makes it possible for you to save your preffered locations and visualizations as pins, and allows you to share them with others. You can add descriptions to your pins as well, and share them via link, or via a JSON file by exporting it.

If you would like to compare satellite imagery of an area on different dates or from different data collections, you can do that by adding your pins to the compare pannel, and compare them using split or opacity sliders.

Below, we have created an example story of the California 2018 wildfires, displaying visualizations from different satellites to study the event. It includes gas concentrations from Sentinel-5P, thermal imagery from Landsat 8 and various visualizations of the fire and burned area from Sentinel-2.

Have you ever wondered how many pixels in your area of interest have the specific value? Now you can find this out in EO Browser directly, by enabling the histogram feature on the right. This is especially useful when doing analysis or creating custom visualizations.

Any image you see on the EO Browser screen, can be downloaded in various file formats. You can download quick PNG or JPG image, selecting whether you want to keep the logo, legend or captions, you can download high resolution imagery, or TIFF data for further analysis, all for free.

View Earth observation imagery in 3D! Navigate and even fly through terrain effortlessly, and when done exploring, pin, share or download your visualization. Terrain Viewer has a series of useful tools; using vertical terrain scaling you can make flatter areas appear more dynamic, and you can even simulate the movement of the sun and its projected shadows at any time of day. Using various tools, one can manipulate the accuracy and strength of shadows, and even control the ambient, diffuse, and specular light factors of terrain. Check our blog post, to find out what you can do with it and see some cool examples.

In EO Browser, you can search, order and visualize commercial high-resolution data all in one place! You can choose between Planet PlanetScope, Planet SkySat Archive, Planetary Variables and Maxar WorldView data. They offer global daily data in high spatial resolution of 0.5 meters (Pleiades, SkySat Archive and WorldView), 1.5 meters (SPOT) and 3 meters (PlanetScope). See how easy it is in the following demonstration video and check the PDF tutorial for step by step instructions.

Note that timelapse, high resolution image download, pin saving and sharing, story builder and distance measurments are only available if logged in. The registration is completely free.

Here is a list of the most common ways people use the Dataverse Network.Activities can be grouped into finding and using data or publishingdata. A brief description of each activity follows with more detailedinformation available in the Users Guide.

The Network Homepage presents a list of recently released dataverses on the left side of the page.A dataverse is a container for studies that can be managed as a group by the dataverse administrator. Most often a dataverse represents a single organization or scholar and so their studies are often related. On the right side of the page there are lists of both recently released studies and studies that have beendownloaded most often. At the bottom of these lists, the View More link brings the user to a complete listof released dataverses or studies as applicable. The home page also includes a scrolling list of datversecollections called subnetworks, if applicable.

When a more specific search is needed, use Advanced Search. AdvancedSearch allows searching on keywords found in specific cataloginginformation fields, in particular collections in a dataverse whereavailable, or by variable name. The link to Advanced Search is next tothe Basic Search feature on the network and dataverse home pages and thesearch results page.

Data in the Dataverse Network is stored in files. Files of anytype are allowed but some types of tabular and network data files aresupported by additional functionality, including downloading indifferent formats, downloading subsets of variables, and analyticaltools.

To download files, click on a study of interest, then select thedata tab. Individual files can be downloaded or groups of files bychecking files of interest or entire file categories and clickingDownload All Selected Files. Groups of files are packaged into a single.zip file. Group downloads have a download size limit and any selectedfiles not downloaded will be indicated in the .zip file.

Tabular and Network data files of recognized formats (Stata, SPSS, RData,Graphml) can be further manipulated through downloading subsets ofvariables and by performing various statistical analyses. Whereavailable these options appear as an additional link, AccessSubset/Analysis, below the Download As format select box next to eachfile. The functionality is quite different for tabular versus networkdata files so refer to the Users Guide for additional information.

The first step to publishing your data is to create a place tostore it that can be managed by you. To do this you need an account.Create a dataverse and account by clicking on the Create a Dataverselink on the upper right side of the network homepage. This leads youthrough a series of steps at the end of which you will have a dataverseand user account to manage it.

Newly created dataverses are unreleased and not available forbrowsing. Make note of the link to your dataverse at the end of theprocess so you can return to it until it becomes released. Another wayto access your unreleased dataverse is to log in, click on your username in the upper right of the page, dataverses tab, then the name ofyour dataverse.

Once you have a user account and a place to store your data, youneed to take the first step toward organizing your data into studies. Many data have been or will be used to publish a study so this step maybe clear. If not, a study should represent a particular thesis orinquiry with accompanying data. First, log in with your new user accountand navigate to your dataverse home page. Next, click Options in theupper right of the page. From there click Create a Study and completethe form. Most of the fields on the study form are optional -only thetitle is required. If you are unsure of what these values should be,enter a title and these fields can be completed later before releasingthe study.

Now that you have a place to store and manage your data and astudy to associate it with, you can upload your data and documentationfiles. Files are uploaded to a study. Navigate to the study you want toupload particular files to and click on Add Files on the upper rightside of the page. The add files page requires you to first select a filetype, then browse for the file on your local system. Some file typesundergo additional processing to support extended functionality but ifyou are unsure which type to choose, select Other. At this time you canenter a descriptive Category which can be used to group related filesand a file description. If you are unsure of these values they can beadded later.

Though files are selected individually, several files can be addedto this page at one time. It is recommended to upload only a few filesat a time since this can take some time to complete, depending on filetype.

If you upload an SPSS (.por, .sav), Stata (.dta) or R(.RData) file, your study will be temporarily unavailable forediting until the additional processing on the file is completed. Thiscan be brief or take some time depending on the size and complexity ofthe file. A message at the top of the file indicates it is unavailablefor editing and an email will be sent when finished to the address youindicate on the add files page.
