Hello BARCers!

There are several important BARC related events coming up...

1. BARC meeting tonight!
Where: Gazebo between the bookstore and Howard Phillips Hall
When: 11/15 6:30pm
Tonight we will be discussing plans for the upcoming BARC party as
well as organizing the next Vegan Breakfast team. We will also be
discussing and possibly voting on t-shirt designs, so if you came up
with an idea, bring it to the meeting to show to everyone! See you
there!

2. Huntingdon Life Sciences Protest at Wachovia Bank
Where: 20 N Orange Ave, Downtown Orlando
When: Friday, 11/16
Demonstration Time: 4:00pm (we will be out there until 8:00pm so don't
worry if you'll be arriving late)
Inside HLS, a contract research organization, 500 animals are murdered
on a daily basis. HLS is one of the largest animal testing facilities
in the world. HLS is on the verge of collapse with no insurance, over
100 million dollars in debt, most days no shares are traded and many
companies will have nothing to do with them due to the massive global
campaign that has been raging against them for years. Wachovia Bank is
the second largest owner of Huntingdon Life Sciences shares. Join the
movement to have Huntingdon brought to their knees and finally shut
down forever. For any questions you may have about Huntingdon, please
visit insidehls.com

3. Progressive Thanksgiving!
Where: Blanchard Park
2451 N. Dean Rd., Orlando
When: Saturday, 11/17 1:00pm
Progressive Council at UCF is hosting an all vegetarian and vegan
Thanksgiving at Blanchard Park this Saturday. There will be canoeing,
frisbee, and other activities at this event, which will be a great
opportunity to meet and get to know other UCF progressives while
enjoying some delicious cruelty-free Thanksgiving foods. Bring a
veg-friendly dish and please label whether it is vegetarian or vegan
for the convenience of others.

4. Foie Gras Protest at Luma Restaurant
Where: 290 S Park Ave., Winter Park
When: Saturday, 11/17
Meetup Time: 7:00pm
Foie gras is a delicacy, literally meaning 'fatty liver.' This dish is
the diseased liver of a duck or a goose that has had a three foot
metal pipe jammed into their esophagus and are forcefed through a
machine that works like a vacuum cleaner in reverse. The machine
engorges their livers mechanically until they explode to ten times
their natural size. This process has disgusted millions and as a
result it has been banned in 16 countries as well as in Chicago and
California. Luma restaurant in Winter Park proudly serves foie gras
and are one of only about a dozen in Central Florida (out of thousands
of restaurants) who are cruel enough to profit from such egregious
cruelty. We have been protesting weekly outside of Luma Restaurant in
an attempt to get them to drop the dish and commit to never serve it
again. Come stand against animal cruelty with other Central Florida
activists as we visit Luma this Saturday night.

5. Vegan Breakfast at the Honors College
Where: Burnett Honors College Lobby
When: Monday, 11/19
Setup Time: 7:00am
Breakfast Starts: 7:30am
BARC has teamed up with the Honors College at UCF to cook vegan
breakfasts twice per month throughout the semester. We will have
pancakes, bananas, orange juice, samples of soy sausage, muffins,
bagels w/ tofutti cream cheese, etc... and all of it will be vegan and
free! Bring yourself and your non-veggie friends to show them how
delicious eating cruelty-free is!

=)
