1. Circus Protest: Ringling is Back
2. Radical Rush Next Week!

1. It's Not Entertainment — Animal Abuse at Ringling Bros. Circus

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is in the midst of a five-week tour of Florida. While in Central Florida, the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida (ARFF) will be out to demonstrate against the cruelty of the circus at Ringling's performances. Animals in circuses live miserable lives of deprivation, confinement and abuse. Ringling's animal-care history is riddled with USDA violations and penalties. Videotape and testimony from former Ringling trainers and circus employees reveal that force and abusive training methods are common behind-the-scenes. (Click here to learn more.) Twenty-four Ringling elephants, including four babies, have died since 1992!

Orlando Dates and Times:
Saturday, January 13, 10:00am, 2:00pm, 6:00pm;
Sunday, January 14, 11:30am, 3:30pm
** Location: The Amway Arena (formerly known as the TD Waterhouse Centre), 600 W. Amelia St., Orlando. Click here for directions and parking information.
Note: ARFF will be leafleting circusgoers following each performance in Orlando.

BARC will be having our own event in conjunction with ARFF's demonstration times. Shortly after the very last circus performance (around 6-6:30pm? on this Sunday evening), Ringling parades their elephants and horses around the streets of downtown Orlando where they end at a train to load up all the animals destined for a new city. They have a police car escort, and naturally, this stops all traffic on the busy roads as the animals go by since it is quite a spectacle! For the last two years, members of BARC have followed this procession, because it becomes the PERFECT opportunity to hold signs and pass out literature to everyone on the streets about the reality of Ringling Bros. Circus and all circuses with animal acts. Anyone is welcome to join in this peaceful and powerful demonstration! If you are free Sunday and interested in helping out, just send a quick email to Sa...@barcdontbite.org for more info on where to meet. Don't forget to bring your camera, because you will get some unforgettable photos...

2. Get Progressive in 2007 with Radical Rush!

What? Radical Rush
When? Tuesday, Jan 16th - Friday, Jan 19th
10:00 am - 2:00pm
Where? Outside the Student Union

Since BARC is a member of the Progressive Council--a coalition of student organizations at UCF who are all concerned with social and political change--we take part in Radical Rush at the beginning of every semester. This is a perfect opportunity to expose our club to incoming freshman and talk to others about vegetarianism and other animal rights/welfare issues. BARC will have a table outside the Student Union from 10am-2pm Monday through Friday this week to recruit new members. Come on out, say hello and get some information. There will be events throughout the week, and the following is a list if many of them:
