Hi All,

Once again its time to call on the community and see if there is
interest for another break away theme in the Waterloo area. Given that
RIM is based here in Waterloo and the iPhone just made mobile web
enabled development in Canada relevant (low data rates, useful
devices) I was thinking we should have a mobile themed camp.

The first question: do you think a mobile theme is a good idea?

If you do then we should figure out what type:

http://barcamp.org/MobileCampWaterloo - would be more a BarCampy thing
where we talk can be about developing for the mobile device, VC funds
or company funds (RIM has one, Nokia too) that you could hit up for
funding, the joy of platforms, startups in the mobile space, etc

http://barcamp.org/MobileDevCampWaterloo - a sorta hack-a-thon where
people build and/or demo mobile apps. This would be a more
iPhoneDevCamp flavour but not just for iPhones...

Is there interest?

Jesse

Hi, Jesse.

I support the idea.

I prefer a dev-oriented Camp. The Startup Camps can still serve (and
possibly benefit from) mobile-based ventures. I'm wanting for more
hard technical content in the Camps, i.e., more "been there", "done
that", and "here's how".

Some of you may recall my initial presentation of Personal Syndication
via rich-media messaging on the Nokia Internet(-only) Tablets at
http://barcamp.org/BarCampWaterloo_September07. Others may recall our
demonstration at http://barcamp.org/DemoCampGuelph4, which showed
sketching. Our recent private Alpha trials went well. If development
reality fulfills ambition, we might announce a restricted Beta trial
at a fall Camp.

Norm.
