Just something I thought of after yesterday's BarCamp: what about
making a Camp all about learning and showing how to do stuff? For
example, how to... :

- build a Django-powered website in under 15 minutes
- same goes for Ruby on Rails
- hack a roomba
- talk to an investor
- talk like a duck

Each howto should be short, to the point, and as interactive as
possible, much like all the rest of the camps. What do you think?

Interesting theme... could be short 5-10 minute presentations. Maybe
try a 'HowTo' hour at the next BarCamp? Might make more sense as a
DemoCamp thing... Toronto added 'ignite' presentations, maybe Guelph
could try out HowTo presentation cycle.?

yeah Jesse's suggestion makes more sense to me. Cause each camp e.g.,
demo, design, startup etc could have different how-to bits. hmmm

I like the idea of HowTo, where attendees identify and perhaps also prioritize the topics. Audience-driven agendas ensure relevance. Attendee interaction multiplies value.

BarCampers are a great technical resource. Chances are, the people in the room can get to a solution for your nagging problem.

Short is always good.

Norm.

If you guys want to try this at the next democampguelph I'm all for
it! I suppose, technically it is just another demo right?

Would you all mind if we tried this at the next StartupCamp on June 3?
(in part because our keynote speaker has a conflict and won't be able
to attend and also cause it's just a neat idea).

Jesse and I were thinking this might be a great way to kick off
startup camp and then dive into start-ups

what do you all think? again per Norman's suggestion it'd be audience
driven topics hopefully posted prior so we can get an idea of what
people can prep

look forward to feedback

Reading over this again, to me this is just DemoCamp isn't it? I
realize of late that we've had a lot of startups demo'ing but we've
had our fair share of "here's how we're using YUI, extjs" etc.

Maybe this is more about how we communicate what type of demos we're
looking for? Maybe people don't realize that a big part of democamp is
for us all to learn and see how we're using stuff. It's not purely
about showing crap you've built or are trying to make money with.

Yup, it was originally suggested that this belongs in DemoCamp for any
tech-related pieces. For things like "how to pitch your brilliant
idea" or "an inside guide to angel investing" I'd suggest StartupCamp
is a better venue.

And yes, a more interactive flavor to DemoCamp would be great!

StartupCampWaterloo is a democamp type thing focused on startup
specific stuff... it isn't a 'let me show you this cool thing' its a
'i have a business or an idea, what do you think?' The focus tries to
stay on the business aspect over the technology.

How we structure it is different though... 60 seconds to make your
pitch, audience votes, then 15-20 min of time with the audience.

I'm gonna have to miss this one, but do you guys need the timer? I
could send it along with Ali (assuming he's going).

Yes please! The timer would really help. Ali is on the opening panel
so I hope he shows up... ;)
