I wanted to mention two things that I think might provide quite a bit
of support for next year. I'm happy to help out getting them
organized, but generally would like some feedback as to what exactly
everyone thinks they should look like. (Also note that none of these
ideas are even remotely original, and most of them I probably
liberated from other like minded people over dinner last night.)
Presentation Camp - I think it might prove pretty useful to have a
small event, perhaps a month or so before BarCamp where we can have a
few people that give great presentations talk about how to deliver.
Gregg Pollack and Chad Miller come to mind when I think of technical
talks, but I'm sure we could all come up with some names. It wouldn't
be long and this would encourage the caliber of presentation to be a
bit more polished. An hour or two with a few 15-20 minute talks would
probably be sufficient for this, particularly if we can get the video
up quickly so that BarCamp Orlando can point to it as 'best practices'
for giving talks.
Pre Registration Rundown - I read quite a bit of the wiki @
barcamp.org and didn't find anything against this, but I think it
would be _very_ useful to have a pre-registration rundown of exactly
what BarCamp is all about. This could be useful to set the tone for
the rest of the day, inform / confirm the schedule (and the address
for the scheduling app) so everyone knows about different times for
lightning talks, lunch, and the possible after party, etc.
Any thoughts on the relative value of trying this stuff out next year?
