So, what's the status of BarCamp NYC 6? I'd love to connect with the
organizers and help in any way I can. Last year was great, let's make
this year even better!

Wow, that sounds awesome! I've been to quite a few BarCamps before, so that will help out. I know a few of the guys over at General Assembly so hopefully we can hold our meetings there. I will get started on this task list and go from there. Here's to a great barcamp this year!

Thanks

Congratulations Shane! You are the lead organizer for BarCampNYC6.

Here's how to proceed:
* Set up a barcampnyc6 google group
* Find a partner - never go it alone. One bad head cold and there goes
the BarCamp
* Create a set of BarCampNYC6 pages at barcamp.org; you can copy
http://barcamp.org/w/page/11948285/BarCampNYC5
* Pick a time and place for a first meeting. New Work City and General
Assembly might be willing to donate a space for an evening. A
conference room is better than a bar for this first meeting.
* Send email to barca...@googlegroups.com, post to twitter, use
every communication method at your disposal to tell NYC technologists
about the first meeting. Invite eager organizers to join the new
barcampnyc6 google group.

BarCampNYC6 will thus come to be!

Thanks for the support guys! I'm really excited. I actually made www.BarCampMap.com a few months back, which shows how enthusiastic about barcamps.

I have created the google group to get things rolling (http://groups.google.com/group/barcampnyc6). I will work on the wiki pages starting tomorrow. Will I have access to the barcampnyc twitter account and domain?

As for venues, I think General Admission or Microsoft will be our best bet for venues, but we may have other options. I will start to spread the word about it and hopefully get some good organizers. I don't think we'll be able to pull it off in April, obviously, so maybe we'll shoot for a summer or fall date? Let's continue this conversation on the new mailing list :)

Thanks again for everything.

Woot woot! Thanks for stepping up Shane!

New Work City is happy to be of service for organizer meetings and/or the event itself. A bunch of us here have been organizing and attending BarCamps for a long time now, and the ethos is very much in line with what we're about.

I'm looking forward to participating and helping out however possible.

Cheers!

Hi Shane, Great timing :) Tony and I have been bantering for a few weeks about getting the BarCampNYC6 ball rolling, and it's wonderful that you're up for heading things up!

Thankfully, you're in a great position to get this BarCamp off the ground - Max, Tony and I are here to help and support you through the process with advice, connections, and grunt work, and there are a few venues ready and willing to host if they're up your alley!

I've been chatting with the GA folks, and they're very interested in supporting BarCamp up to and including hosting it. I believe Tony would also be up for hosting at New Work City if you decide to go with a more intimate Camp. I haven't spoken to Pete at Microsoft about it, but they've always been friendly and inviting, and the folks at ITP might be interested again as well if you approach them.

Essentially, one of the first things to do is decide what type of BarCamp you'd like you put together, mostly influenced by the number of attendees you plan on inviting and how focused you'd like it to be.

The New York tech and startup scene is extremely active at the moment, so there's a chance to bring together a huge crew of smart people to share their knowledge. You could also keep the camp smaller, and spread the word more organically, to encourage a more focused event.

Either way, so awesome to hear that you're interested in picking this up and running with it! Let me know if there's any way I can help.
