Hello Barcampers,

Fashion Camp is coming up this weekend and we're in great shape as far
as speakers, workshops, and attendees are concerned. But we just had a
sponsor pull out at the last minute, and we can't cover our budget.

We're $1000 in the hole. Its incredibly short notice and I've
exhausted all the possible leads I can think of, so I'm hoping someone
on the list will have an idea of what to do or who to call. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
j

I wish PCamp had some surplus to share, but I just finally hit my numbers after many months.  ITP is at least patient.

Have you thought about soliciting donations from attendees?  Maybe put a chipin widget on your site?  Also, have a tip jar at registration.

We've thought about both of these. The on-site tip jar seems like a
no-brainer, and I started setting up a chip-in this morning, but
balked at the last minute. We have ZERO credibility in the fashion
world. I feel like they'll come around after seeing their first
barcamp, but until they have a concrete, positive experience to look
back on, I'm wary of putting up a chip-in with a low low number of
contributions. Am I being over-sensitive?

I can see how credibility is an issue, as you are trailblazing.  Maybe just focus on wowing them at the event, and plan to beg afterwards.  Also, think about a way to make the process seem "fashionable" :)

Maybe we'll suggest a panel called "Fashionable Begging"? ;-)
