BarCamp Miami
|
 |
 |
Miami will host its fifth BarCamp on February 19, 2012 -- and we need your help!
BarCamp is an international network of innovators who have created a new forum of user-generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — often focusing on early-stage web applications and related open source technologies, social media, and open data formats.
Over 5 years, over 1,200 people and 75 sponsors have participated in BarCamp Miami.
This year, we especially need your help with sponsorship. We have identified a great new modern venue, The Little Haiti Cultural Center, and we are proud to hold it in a facility that provides so much for the community. However, for the first time we are holding BarCamp in a venue that is not free, which has substantially increased our budget. As a result, we may be running BarCamp at a loss, which is a shame sine everyone gets so much out of attending BarCamp.
We are looking for sponsors and donors. The sponsorship rate is a flat $250. Donors may contribute any amount of their choosing. Please use the Eventbrite form for sponsorship and donations. Your contribution will support a well-loved event which fosters the growth of technology in South Florida.
We will give a full accounting of BarCamp costs and revenues during BarCamp, to maintain transparency.
Please get in touch with me if you would like to help organize BarCamp Miami.
Want to know more about BarCamp? In a few words,
-
BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees.
-
BarCamp is a free-wheeling discussion of new products, services and ideas. It lets people meet other people who understand the new technology and what it means for Miami’s future.
-
BarCamp spotlights new technology products and provides an opportunity to spread the word via blogs, podcasts, photoblogs and word of mouth.
-
It’s not your traditional talking heads technology conference. Everyone is expected to participate in some way: by giving a talk, asking questions, or organizing a session.
-
BarCamp foster collaborations matching technologists with designers, with engineers and with angel investors.
Please RSVP at Eventbrite, where over 200 people have signed up!

What role did social media and citizen media play in organizing and accelerating protest movements? What's the relationship between citizen media and mainstream media?
Our panelists include:
