Great! I think it's very clear!

How do people find these videos, and the directions that you posted
previously? I've been looking on http://eight.barcamplondon.org/ but
can't find any directions... Where did you post them?

See you tomorrow,

Carin

Glad you all liked them! I guess they can be put together with the
travel information? when ill that be transferred to the site? will it
stay in the wiki?

Let me know if there's something you want me to do

Speaking as someone from out of town it would be useful to have
something to print and carry on the day.

We have used a traditional map ( example at http://tinyurl.com/yftw6cc
) but following on from the street view idea what about an A4 sheet
with the step by step instructions and photos/screen grabs when
useful.

I was once put on probation in my photograph group for using a paper
map, but I don't need to worry about battery life or mobile coverage.
In my ideal world I have an A4 sheet with all the information I need.
Normally I print out a map and make notes all over it, but if someone
can do it for me then I am less likely to get lost.

I am not a true northerner mind, they just require a list of pubs on
the way. :-)

Make sure there's a 'cut out this bit' hole on each sheet for looking
though so that when holding the screen grabs up noone walks into a lamppost.

They are really good Morena! Thanks!

Didn't somebody (Kevin?) say that Farringdon was scheduled to be closed
for engineering works our weekend?

You don't get it. You need to spend hundreds of pounds on a tablet computer.

This is much more efficient than spending 50p on some laser print-outs. ;-)

But, yes, point taken. We'll try and have really good instructions on
getting to the venue. I'll also check to see if the BarCamp phone is
still working. Basically, the phone number we distributed last time
should still be running so if people get lost they can call the number
and get through to someone on staff who can give them directions.

He did; it looks like a de facto closure of the station due to
engineering on all three lines running through Farringdon.

Looks like there are an awful lot of lines either entirely suspended
or with large parts closed, so it's probably worth making sure people
get their journeys sorted beforehand.

Planned engineering works can be found on the TFL site:

Holy cow that's a *lot* of closures - especially for me as I have to get from Paddington to Farringdon *laughs* maybe I'll have to stay Friday night rather than travel in from Oxfordshire on Sat morn ;-)

I love the augmented reality map for Angel though and that'll be the one I'll use unless I figure out a Boris bike, bus or overland rail route :-)

Perhaps we could send a mail to everyone who has a ticket just before the event for the confirmation email making sure they are still coming saying:

"With the large number of planned tube closures http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews/realtime/track.aspx, we highly recommend planning your route by Bakerloo, Northern, or overground rail line, Boris bike or bus as the circle, hammersmith & city, metropolitan, jubilee, victoria and other lines are closed for the weekend and there is no on site parking.  There are a number of bus routes which cover the area coming from a variety of London neignbourhoods, as well as other modes of public transport."

That way we cover confirmations *and* if someone feels they want to cancel their ticket due to transport issues, that would catch them then.

Ahem.  Would anyone like to use an Ushahidi for this?  i.e. people could post difficulties over the weekend in the same way they did during the London tube strike, so they can warn each other in advance?  Or would that be a bit too high-tech a response?  I know how to set one up if needed...

"When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail". Ushahidi looks fantastic but seems an inappropriate solution for a situation where all the information is known in advance.

The venue postcode, a list of tube closures and a list of what buses run nearby in a web page is probably good enough.

I was thinking the same. It is really east to over complicate things and I just don't see people wanting to be bothered first thing on Saturday when traveling with bags in a strange place.

It makes sense to me for Londoners to point people in the direction of the travel information they will need, and I have no doubt that people will update Twitter for any live stuff that can be retreated if relevant to enough people.

The only thing that I think might be worth thinking about if there is a problem getting to the venue is to suggest meeting places at key statins and a way to identify fellow delivered so people can share a taxi. That is only if the tube really is borked on the day.

ok so because of all the station closures, the best station to come off at are:

Angel
Old Street
potentially Chancery Lane

any other ideas?

So I've filmed Angel to Barcamp; I keek on filming Old Street to
Barcamp and the shitty software keeps on deleting the file for some
reason so I am a bit fed up with it now and will try again some other
day :(

I've captured in a jpg the map with line closures and put together an
html page with printable instructions. Do you guys want to put these
up or save them as PDF? I don't have the functionality

We can recommend people those stations and then if the Barcamp mobile
is still working it would be good to have it on, I'm happy to answer
to direct people or whatver.

Also, sorry I just realised the Thhursday Swag Bag preparing clashes
with the Aperitivo I'm organising :( so sorry I will not be able to
make it. I'm happy to do some bags on the Friday though :)

Tottenham Court Road or Holborn (on the Picadilly and Central line) then get the 38 or 19 bus - they are every couple of mins and drop you off right at the back of the Social Sciences building on Rosebury Avenue - that's how I get to work there everyday.  If you get off the central line at Chancery Lane then you can take the 314 bus but it isn't very regular.

I think it might be a bit too much for getting to the venue.

If people can't get to the venue, they'll either get online and look up a map on their many smart phones, iPads, laptops and so on.

Or they can call the mobile number and get help. Or shout at us on Twitter.

Agreed. I've had CFS, and on a bad day, I get lost very very easily: I
can even get lost on regular journeys like work to home.

If it's any help, on my worst days I carry an A4 sheet with an area map
on it marked up with working transport links (e.g. thick lines with bus
numbers and train times on), a picture of the building I'm going to, and
a phone number I can call for help (e.g. rail or tfl helplines): this
seems to reduce the confusion enough to get somewhere. I haven't tried
a card with "if found, please return to", but it's only a matter of time...

Ummm. Good idea there. Perhaps I should put "If found please return to. BarCamp" on my t-shirt. Mind you I will need to find the place before I get the t-shirt. I did not think that one through did I? :-)
