This is impossible. Another price hike, another harthal.

Did the previous harthals on price hikes do anything to the prices? Do these harthals do any good to the economy of Kerala?

WTF would be an understatement if we are to sit around and celebrate this non-sense at home watching TV.

I have decided to call quits on taking this non-sense and I am calling a harthal on harthal tmro. Basically, i will be living my life just as if there was no harthal announced. Office in the morning, lunch back home, office again and back home in the evening.

If enough people do this, I am sure the strike would be rendered pointless.

What say?

Hm .. I have been planning to move to my home town .

The main thing is when the game of this politics stop we will be a developed country, until then still under development .

Prices will go up and down . Are we earning the same amount that we have earned 2 years back ?

Lol , some of you may blame me :) . Anyway this is stopping the freedom of a Person to move ... Where is the court ? All seems sleeping ....

Its time to wake up , as @anand says .. But who will give the protection ? The ruling government or the opposition ? ( I am not just blaming a single party .. all are same like the head and tail of a coin )

Thanks and Regards

The logic implied in "Did the previous harthals on price hikes do anything to the prices?"  might apply to most if not all protests carried out by
me, you and everyone else in the society -- just a thought.

My question being, it is a political party (i dont even know who!) which has called up this harthal, who do they represent? The people of Kerala.....I could not find a single person who supports this harthal since it was announced today. Who gave these people the right to disrupt normal life in the state? They do not represent me, and i am sure they do not represent anyone around here either.

Every sane individual knows the price of crude in the international market is rising and India cannot stay insulated for long from it. it is international economics and a day off in Kerala is not going to affect it one bit.

If they are looking for something to protest, protest against the dependency on oil, support the investment and r&d on making alternative energy sources to power the nation.

To answer your question, i know people who have stood up to protest against insane stuff and got things changed and justice received.

Appreciate your initiative Anand. Good call. It is without doubt silly, but follow your gut. At least it will put some heads to shame if not anything else.
Also - pls stay safe, and act wise. If possible, join up with a few folks and show that we protest, do it with a message. Let it be heard for your effort.

Best.

You have valid points against hartals and they are beyond any debate.

What I was trying to say is, the idea that protests are justified only if they are bound to have a direct influence on the subject is wrong or even dangerous.
But this is whole another discussion -- lets stay focused on the topic here.

Me and @jlusujith are at the office now...Trust me, there was no trouble anywhere in the city with all major junctions covered with police protection.

I think its a mental fear caused by the media on harthals that is preventing people from opening shops and businesses during harthal days.

The funny thing is that, the price hike is in all over India and the Harthal is only in Kerala! The Govt. sponsored Harthal ! It will happen only in Kerala.
The 3rd highest petrol price in India is @ Kerala. In this 54+ Rupees, near to Rs:15 is only the tax by Kerala Govt. They will get the additional tax share of more than 100 crore rupees in this year only due to this hike.

We all know its not possible to avoid the petrol price hike, its happening all over the world. But I think, both Central and State Govt. can reduce the Tax percentage on petroleum products to reduce this additional burden to the common people. Allaathe Harthal nadathy manushyare budhimittikukayallaa veendathu!!!
