we can co-locate this with the icta expo. that will give
you ready made audience.

1. What the hell has BizComp to do with BarCamp.
2. Co-Locating is a bad idea because BarCamp is a separate event an
unconference and MUST be kept with ICTA affairs.

+1 for September 26.

we never managed to do that UNconference thing.
we planned the schedule instead. but hopefully we might be able to do it
this time.
another issue: we were expecting hundreds of attendees last time.
instead, on average we had about 20 each session

if we can achieve good audience for both events (ict expo and barcamp) what
is the problem with that.
i am not saying you do it as part of icta expo. it will be a seperate event
but CO-LOCATED.
branding of the events will be completely different. but it will help us
drive audiecne for
both event. just a suggestion at this stage.

.... and i did not understand either why bizcomp flyer was attached.

First, I apologize if I sounded bad.

Secondly, The UN-conference thing was always present there. Its just
that no body opted to exercise it. What I mean, anybody during the
conference has the right to say "Shut Up Nazim! We don't want to
listen to you, instead we want to do XYZ talk/thing."

Thirdly, IT Expo requires a large and good audience, BarCamp does not.
Don't get me wrong, good audience is always good but idea of BarCamp
is above the number. 5 people can have a barcamp in a small coffee
shop. BTW, we had around 70 odd people. Presentations/Talk were great
and appreciated by everyone.

Finaly, mixing it with Expo or any other ICTA affair in anyway, might
cause problems and cause some people to stay aloof from it. I mean
ICTA is already too much busy. There are no set dates for the IT Expo
right now. So we are not sure about the dates.

These are just my thoughts. As a community BarCamp might have
different. If its fine with the community, it more than fine with me.

Speak up guys!

just having healthy debate nazim. feel free to speak up, as i do.

icta expo dates: first wk of oct. it is a two day affair. could do barcamp
in parallel on first or second day. again just a suggestion at this stage.
let us first get the volunteers out that are going to organise the barcamp
this time round. then those volunteers can decide upon the date.

what say guys?

Hello,

Last week of Sept is fine and it has to be a standalone event even if we get only 10 people attending this time.
@jahangir, ICTA expo is a big event for overall IT fraternity of J&K and we need huge presence of audience for that, even if they are non-techie.

Oct. sounds better than Sep. The last week of Sep is Idd. It would be an awkward plan to plant it in that week , think... the audiance and even the active participants, volunteers who make themselves available for that day will be disastrously below our expectations

imagine the barcamp attendees being able to visit the stalls as well - the same day?
what is wrong with adding value to your attendance? and there is that bizcomp as well
where attendees can see what new business ideas young people are producing.

the other issue is that if we are happy with 10 attendees to the barcamp, we will most
probably start losing sponsor interest.

Trust Me. The kind of people who will be at BarCamp, won't be
interested in visiting the stalls.

Problem with October is that there's is Durga Puja, Dassera and
Navratri in that month so means some people who might be interested to
come might not be able to come, because of festivities going on and
family reasons.

Guys,

Why are we in hurry??

Let us keep it in October and if October is festive season, let us postpone it till Nov.

September looks too close to me.

It is not about organising, it is about fulfilling the cause.

We can always arrange heating. No big worries.

Even october is good, but september looks too close.

My view is that we will not be able to do justice to the event.

Ramazan is going on, and it is a bit difficult to start preparations for the event.

What u say??

you might have a point. maybe people come to barcamps to get an update on
technical stuff. so this might not be for sales and marketing type. good luck soldiers.

Guys even if we decide for last week of sept, we can organize it easily and Ramadhan will not be a hiccup. For getting quality audience we just need to exercise online resources rather than moving physically. My vote strictly for last week of sept. rest of dates look improbable.

We have to several things offline as well and time is running and if we have to organise it arround end of sept we have to start the prep. i can take responsibility of venue and some logistic related things.

Finalise the date ASAP so that we can start if folks are intrested.

Hello All:

Wanted to give it one more shot from my side.
We have ICT EXPO on 8th and 9th October. On 9th October
we will give up one of the halls (conference hall). We can do Barcamp in that
hall (9th oct). The rental is 15k for the day. I am sure we can
cover that through some sort of sponsorship. There will be
complete Barcamp branding inside the conf hall and couple
banners outside. Could have Nazim or someone lead the
marketing from here on. And if ICT EXPO organises a 'job fair' on the same
day, we can have good traffic to the Barcamp.

What do you say guys?

Don't think its a good idea to have the camp in winter. The best time
was when we first started the talk and that was last week of
september or first week of october. I think next good time is april.

i think few people are travelling to pune for drupal event and attending two events in a period of 15 days is difficult . Winter is not a problem.

We should schedule it somewhere after 25th NOV

also we need to keep in mind, many students will be back in kashmir
for their winter holiday. They can attend it. we need to gauge the
pros n cons for a winter schedule.

Hi Basharat,

Barcamp is a free and open event about anything that you care about.
Now this barcamp is about technology. There can be a camp for
painters, photographers or whatever.

Sure man you can start your own group, who is stopping you. You do not
need to break away from the main Barcamp for that because barcamp is
about sharing knowledge.

This particular mailing list is for organization and planning of the
barcamp event. you can start other mailing list for the purpose and
invite everyone to this list.
