YES! The ultimate in unconference is 2 days away!

Saturday 11th @ 10am @ [20 d 04.5400m : -26 d 01.9614m]

Breaking news: Looks like Barcamp Johannesburg will be hooking up with Barcamp Africa (taking place at the Googlplex) via Ustream.tv. We've also got some exciting guests from out of town such as the world famous Erik Hersman (of Ushahidi.com, Afrigadget.com, and Whiteafrican.com fame)

Unconference: A term used to describe events with little structure, where the attendees drive the agenda and freely form new discussions and sub-groups as ideas.

Let's take a moment to analyse this definition, and apply it to Saturday's event...

<analysis>

- "events" - yes it is an event, and it will be hosted at the offices of Agilisto. Please note the word "at", there is no hosted "by" in an unconference. (map to Agilisto: http://snurl.com/468ji) (If anyone is able to secure a bigger venue please contact me directly iare...@gmail.com or @thescott on twitter)

- "little structure" - while the wiki holds some info about the event, it's the only bit of structure there is. There are no agendas, no plans, no nothing. The agenda and line-up will be guided by the good old post it note. On that note, ahem, I see that there are also no chairs, so please bring something to sit/lie on.

- "attendees drive the agenda" - as mentioned previously, you will write your proposed topic that you'd like to present on a post it note, and attendees will vote on the ones they're the most interested in, and the notes will be arranged in order (in the spirit of keeping it "unconferency" i'd like to add that i THINK this is how it will work).

- "new discussions and sub-groups as ideas" - please come armed with something YOU would like to present. It is important that everyone contribute to the discussions. No wall-flowers please. Even if you think you're a kak speaker, it's a really nice relaxed atmosphere to practice your greatest fear.

</analysis>

Ok, there's also a list of things on the wiki that are needed to make this event work smoothly. I've taken the liberty of plagiarising the list into this email.

The list of things still needed: (i've removed stuff that's being taken care of)

- We need a nice logo if any of you think you're a designer (these will go onto t-shirts sponsored by Cerebra).

Tech
- audio (not sure what this is? a decent set of speakers perhaps?)
- Tripod for Video Camera

Non-tech
- Lunch (if there's anyone out there willing to pick up the tab on pizza takeaway orders or something along those lines, please contact me directly)
- Coffee/Tea
- Tables and chairs (tables too?)

Sponsors
- if you'd like to associate yourself with this hyper-dynamic bunch of super-geeks and their super-awesome event, please contact me directly. If anything, you'll get a couple incoming links to your site which is great for your search rankings!
- Bring money in case we go out for / order lunch.
- Bring beer if you like beer.

That's it. The contact details for the unorganisers:
Danie Roux - da...@danieroux.com
Armand Du Plessis - arma...@agilisto.com
Carl Spies - ca...@carlspies.com
Jaxon Rice - ja...@agilisto.com (i'm guessing there)
Scott Gray - iare...@gmail.com

see you there!

With regards to audio, I've got equipment (of varying
size/capability). What size venue are we looking at, and would we
wanna record talks or anything?

Additional audio equipment will be very welcome. There's a smallish
space and a larger open/empty space that should work out allright for
the number of attendees we're expecting.
