I'll offer what I think is the most important peice of advice I can.
In my experience, there are three major keys to getting a Barcamp out
of planning and into reality.

1. Pick a venue.
2. Pick a date.
3. Make it happen.

One person can accomplish all three of these, but Its often easier if
there's a core team of key stakeholders on the ground who can make
calls, talk to people, and get deals done.

First, find a venue. Everything else will come together from there.

This sounds like sage advice from someone who has done this before :)

So how about it everyone? Can you think of any contacts you have that
would be interested in hosting BarCampFoxValley 1?

The region "Fox Valley" is pretty big on a map. Surely there is a venue
to be had:

Hi Todd,

Would you be interested in hosting the first Fox Valley BarCamp?

See google for  a definition and prior WI events - great marketing
potential for your space.

Yes I was not clear cuz I'm on mobile. We need a space for a day or
two and I'm not sure about size yet.

@all: Can someone w experience estimate anticipated size?

Let the venue determine the size. In Milwaukee, we've had great success with huge open-ended attendance,  but we've always had a huge asset in our venue-sponsorship. Bucketworks has been kind to us. We've also seen (@barcampMadison) great events with capped attendance.

I don't know the community well enough to know how well it would take off-- but 200 is a good starting point, in my experience.

If you are looking at space in Appleton there are a few places I could contact, depending on what space we would need

Yes! Great! Let's see what venues would be open to an event.

Gabe suggested support for 200 participants from his experience. An
ideal venue would allow multiple sessions to happen at the same time.
The more the better in fact. BarCampMilwaukee (granted big metro area)
sustained 6 simultaneous sessions throughout the day!

Best barcamp venue in Fox Valley is Girl Scout building on N. Lynndale
Dr. in Appleton by Bubolz. If you go look at the building, you'll see
why it would be good for a barcamp. Would be in true FOOcamp/barcamp
tradition if they let people camp out overnight on the grounds in
tents...

Best way to get them to agree to have the event there is have
involvement of Girl Scout leader(s), some geek Girl Scouts (maybe from
Tesla School or from one of the local robotics teams?) and to have
some proposed sessions oriented toward high school girls, and maybe
even middle school girls. The last BarCampMilwaukee had some KidCamp
sessions, and if someone wants to take that on, that would probably
make the Girl Scout bldg administrators more inclined to host the
event at their place.

Also should have an event sponsor such as FVTC/Venture Center from a
liability standpoint and as a contract-signing nonprofit organization
involved in the event. Amy Pietsch would be a good person to talk to
regarding that. She might also be willing to cover cost of the venue
-- last time she and I looked at that space, it was only about $100/
day. Toughest part of getting that venue would likely be finding an
open date. A barcamp would have lowest priority for reserving a date
-- they have multiple levels of priorities, with official Girl Scout
activities taking first priority.

yes -- if you haven't seen it before, you should go out and take a look around. you'll realize right away what a great place it would be for a barcamp...
