Well, I managed to lose the file I was taking notes in at BarCampMilwaukee. So here goes from memory...

There were perhaps 12 people in attendance at the session.

Suggestions:
  • Have food/meals.
  • The 20 second introductions are key.
  • Have lightning talks.
  • Since the Fox Valley is not as densely populated as Milwaukee or Madison, BarCampFoxValley should be a "roaming" BarCamp. For example "BarCampFoxValley 1 - Beaver Dam", "BarCampFoxValley 2 - Green Bay", etc.
  • Contact local realtors for vacant industrial/commercial spaces.
  • Can use sheets of bubble wrap to partition large open areas for parallel sessions.
  • Offers of help with pot luck meal organization
  • Possible location leads in Green Bay (Sparknet?), Neenah (Boys and Girls Brigade), Beaver Dam (Jason G.)
  • What did I miss?

I need to comment on the possible location for Green bay? You put down Sparknet? I would love to hear more about this and why.

Would you consider KI Convention center? Reliable internet is a definite must not many other larger venues open 24 hours in Green Bay.

Hi Jason,

That comment was in reference to possibly vacated property owned by Sparknet. That's all the details I have.

I believe the group would consider any leads with regard to location. All we need is someone with a lead to explore it. If we all do this, we should have several choices of venue for first, second, third, etc BarCamps.

Jason, the problem with most convention centers, hotels, etc, is that you cannot bring in outside food (without exorbitant fees) as they expect you to go through them for food. Also, it appears that this camp won't be overnight as BarCampMilwaukee is.

Just a note on that bubble wrap thing, it worked to visually break up the space, but from a sound isolation standpoint, it did a poor job.

The other thing I think you should do is identify sponsors, and as many local sponsors as you can get. If you have meetings (DHMN or other user group-type meetings) where you can have someone give a presentation on BarCamps, that could also help.

The bubble wrap was hot, too.
