Greetings!

As the Distributed Hacker/Maker Network (http://dhmn.net) is evolving as
a group, it becomes clear that at some point in the future the Fox
Valley will be able to host a BarCamp. Initially it may be no more than
a few-hour meetup (as opposed to a two day campout) but it will happen.

The Fox Valley collectively is growing fast and with that so are the
numbers of people that would participate in and enjoy a BarCamp.

This list will hopefully provide a communication channel to get us from
zero-to-BarCampFoxValley!

Hi Jakob,

How's the UW-O treating you?  I myself have ridden the rapids of exiting Nth Penguin and have moved on to consulting through ZyQuest for the moment.

I wanted to pass this on to you, before the students disappeared.  This week we started actively promoting the idea of a Fox Valley BarCamp, and it would be a great opportunity for yourself, colleagues and students to get in on the ground floor.   The more people, the better!

For more information, please see below.

Take care,
Erin QL

Erin,

Good to hear from you again. The Barcamp idea looks like fun!
(although the 'Bar' reference may be lost on college students - "No,
not THAT kind of bar!").

I've joined the group and will see if I can get some students to do so
as well. When plans are more concrete I'm sure a number of students
would participate. Especially if the topics are more on the social
media side rather than hardcore tech. At the College of Business we
have a lot of Marketing students interested in Social Media, but very
few IS and CS students who would be more interested in the technology.

Welcome Jakob!

There appears to be a *very* active social media interest in the valley.
Searches on Twitter, Facebook, and Google in the FV region show an
active community of media, marketers, local business, local government,
and general social media fans.

Specific examples:

I'll bet if we approach this community with the idea of a BarCamp there
would be significant interest.

I am a part of both #nnsmb & #bbhill (where we discussed a trip to barcamp Milwaukee)

There would be a lot of involvement if there was a social media focus!
