Guys, is there going to be another BarCamp this year?

I haven't heard of any news of a BarCamp but I would be interested in
attending and helping to plan one. I will also tweet to see if there
is additional interest in planning.

I missed last years but would love to see this be a more frequent
event in DSM.

I'd be interested to see this get off the ground as well. I've
subscribed to the group and will chime in when I can.

If it does happen, I know myself and several other guys from the Omaha
area would love to drive over and attend.

Good news - there is going to be a BarCamp in Omaha this year! I'll
make another announcement here when the date and location is known. But
it looks like its going to be in early August.

I know Matt Vincent (ma...@sourceallies.com) was the main guy who got
it started last year.

I would be very interested in helping get this set up.

Great to hear and look forward to more information. Omaha would make
for a nice road trip!

I think a 2008 event in Des Moines would be great as well.

Glad to hear there's interest in doing this again.  I was impressed with the turn-out last year and the number of sponsors we got to keep the event free for attendees.  I think all of this just means that it will be an even bigger event with an even wider variety of topics and attendees this year.  Want to schedule an open planning session over lunch or breakfast (maybe with a call-in number for you Ryan) to get some initial ideas flowing and then bring it all back into this mailing list?

I created an upcoming event for this -- feel free to share with
contacts and we can use it to spread the word/guage how many people
will be there.

Hi all,

Here are some high level notes from the meeting. If you are interested
in helping out in any of the planning for the 2008 BarCamp let us
know. We are starting to outline what needs to happen to get
everything ready and as always we need people to generate interest so
post updates to your blog, twitter or anything else.

Thanks,

2007 Recap

Matt Vincent coordinated and did much of the planning to make the 2007
BarCamp happen. From idea to execution there was approx. one month
lead time. Marketing and participants were found though word of mouth,
leveraging websites such as google groups, pbwiki and blogs, and
networking with user groups such as Linux and DSM Java Des Moines user
groups. Successes include:
• Raising donations from seven companies totaling $2100
• Securing a DJ for the event
• Having shirt printed and given to participants
• Having 40+ participants at the event with approx 24 hosted sessions
• Having food and location secure for the event
• Providing all of this at no cost to the participants

For 2008’s BarCamp the ideology and objectives are similar with the
added goal of:
• Increase number of participants
• Greater diversity of topics

Plan for 2008
Host a BarCamp using the same ideology has the 2007 BarCamp sometime
around the late July/ early August time frame. To do so the following
steps have been outlined:
• Network with groups to ensure there are no conflicting events which
may take away participants from the 2008 BarCamp
• Secure sponsors for the event (monetary and conf. like handouts)
• Secure location pending idea dates for the event (assume
Adventureland)
• Find a DJ
• Graphics and T-shirt designs
• Generate buzz/interest via web, word of mouth, and in-person
presenting to user groups

From Breakfast meeting Action Items:
• Rob to write up notes
• Matt to send Rob a list of sponsors (and proposed) from last year
with contact names
• Rob to create one pager with expectations/what is BarCamp
• Aaron/Matt to network with user groups and propose a date for 2008
BarCamp
• Matt to meet with Advertureland hotel for open dates and confirm
rates

FYI, the Omaha BarCamp is going to be on August 15th-17th, so I hope that weekend can be avoided.

August 5th is my birthday! But that date is rapidly approaching.

Has there been any more development/interest in a 2008 barcamp in des

We are actually looking at Aug 23rd and have secured a location. Still
some time to finish up planning but it is quickly approaching. Dang, I
need to set aside some time to contact potential sponsors.

Definitely ought to do some Tweetup Badges for #dmbarcamp. Are there
plans to have people preregister or anything of the sort? Or would we
base it off of the Upcoming "I'm Going" list and say that after a
certain date, if you are not on that list, you don't get a badge?

Is there a logo being used for #dmbarcamp (vector format) that could
be used on the badge? Just a thought.
