We want to organize another, bigger, better barcamp in delhi. The
timeline that sort of makes sense is End of July.

1. I want to get people's interest on this matter.

2. Also, would like to open a discussion on an appropriate date. A
saturday-sunday for sure.
How do folks feel about 25th July or 1st August?

Hey Ritika,

Well it all depends on the consensus and there is nothing called
"Bigger & Better" BarCamp. Although i appreciate your initiative for
BCD7. Lets talk about this and if people agree we can go for it.

Please be sure to reply the same thread instead of starting new thread
everytime you want to say something to the community.

Cheers!!

Merging the information about the collaboration document.

I've shared a document with you called "Bar Camp Delhi 7":

It's
not an attachment -- it's stored online at Google Docs. To open this

Holding it more towards August-end / September-start would be a better
idea. Historically, BarCamps in Delhi have been held in a period of
every 6 months. July would be a tad to early, IMHO. Let's see what
others say.

+1 for BCD7 – Let us go for it friends. I think July is far and we can easily make it happen somewhere in first or second week of June or even early.

What do you think guys?

Mayank

I agree with Ankur July's way too early for another BarCamp.
My two cents on the venue: I wouldn't go to American Center - first,
there's no Internet. And there's a whole bunch of procedures like RSVP
et cetera you need to do. It needs to be well planned. BarCamp is
supposed to be an unconference we can't get way too organized. That's
not a BarCamp - that's just another conference with the name "BarCamp"

Now, how come nobody's talking about drinks? ^_^ Can't we get
Kingfisher to sponsor some kegs? It is a BARcamp ya?

Oh great, if the community agrees then we can have a BCD7. No one is against BCD7. and if suggesting you being a part of community signifies that we DO NOT want to organize the barcamp, then i must say its you who assumed it.

Anyways good luck with what u doing

Cheers!!

I had a meeting with Ankit and Guru who have volunteered to help
organize BCD7.
The meeting notes have been updated and added to
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ddmx64j2_32n5jvmzg2
Please take a look.

- I encourage people who DO NOT want to organize but still help in
some way to add their names to the 'How can I help' section in the
document.
- We are still looking for few more volunteers who want to help
organize bar camp 7. So add yourself to the document.
- Ankit, Guru and I have added our todo's in the document. We do not
mind help. Let us know if you can help in any way with our assigned
talks like sponsors, location etc.
- Add your names as potential speakers or just suggest topics for
someone else to speak on.
- Give suggestions on how to make this BCD bigger and get more
audience, and how to get it publisized.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have assimilated most of the votes I have received regarding the
possible dates for BCD7 (both online from this group and offline from
my emails). Till now the poll ratio is as follows:

a. Last week of July/First week of August - 5
b. Last week of August/First week of Sept - 3
c. June - 1

My vote of also for 'a - which makes it a total of 5 votes (inclusing
mine).

Lets keep this poll going for few more days.
It would be great to hear from everybody on the preference of dates.
It is definitely very clear that BCD 7 will be held AFTER 20th July.
(not before that).

* Reality check *

Realin - Not sure what you are trying to say or imply by your last post. Please be more explicit.
In the last 2 weeks I have met 3 people who said they want to help organize the BCD7. And I met 3-4 more people who do not want to commit a lot of time organizing it but still want to volunteer and help out in other ways.
My first sentence about 'encouraging people who do not want to oarganize...' was catered towards the latter lot of people.
I am not sugggesting anyone to NOT organize the camp.

Realin - You have horribly misinterpreted my words. Please try and clarify such things before posting such remarks. In the future, you can also move such discussions offline.

Chill it folks.
Like Yu Yu just said, BarCamps are unorganised unconferences in their native nature.
I have attended and `un`organised couple of BarCamps in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata & Delhi.

Now, going by the concept, BarCamps are generally held when the junta wants them to happen.

If you want to really conduct a poll Ritika, I suggest you could use any of those free polling websites to do that rather than asking people randomly. And if you want real public consensus, send a link of that poll to everyone who attended the last three BCDs and looking at the larger sample space, take your decision.

Also would suggest you to get along with some of the seasoned `un`organisers in Delhi, and take some cues from them.

Thanks Mitesh for your suggestions.
I have personally attended many bar camps in the US and really like their concept and idea.
Some of the seasoned barcampers I have spoken to in the past week are:
- Piyush Gupta and Panjak Jain
I was also there at the startup saturday event on 11th april and met Ritesh and Gurudatt who have blogged and tweeted such events in the past. I am happy to talk to more seasoned campers and get suggestions.

I have assimilated all their inputs and suggestions in the google doc.

Till now, from talking to these people and from the posts to this topic, I have seen a positive energy towards BCD7.
I have not seen any post on 'not having another BCD'.
My impression has been that people want a BCD and are very open on the topic of 'when'.

There is also no urgency for organizing it. People are still sending inputs on a date and time and I am very much open on that.

I just like to plan ahead and since I was in delhi this weekend, I met with some folks who volunteered to help, so we can be better prepared. I'm sure there is nothing wrong with that :)

We are all very much open on the TIMELINE for BCD7. Please continue to send your inputs for time.
And , if you send in a suggestion for time , it also means that you are interested in having another BCD. I take that as positive energy :)

1. BCD6 was in Feb and BCD7 is being planned in August. 6 months gap seems fine, no harm.

2. Even if it is less than 6 months, nothing wrong in it. BarCamp is always by people who want to attend it, not by the 'un'organizers.

3. Its good that discussion have started so early. Healthy discussion will build the traction and pull the right kind of crowd in event

My contribution
I might not be available full time to unorganize but I'm always available online to help.

Hi Ritika,

Firstly, let us all welcome you to the Barcamp Delhi community. It's our pleasure to have you with us, especially after learning that you're based out of Jaipur and still enthusiastic about BCD.

Quite a few many volunteers have worked hard in the past to build this community and preserve the enrhusiasm here. I request you to get associated with this team and work towards it with similar enthusiasm.

Hi Sachin (Realin),

Your active contribution to the mailing list is admirable. Realizing that there's a little confusion over the words exchanged, l request you to please support and help Ritika in building the better understanding from your previous experience of organizing the Barcamp Delhi.

It is perhaps my mistake of not responding to the discussion proactively. Apologies.

Regards,
