Hi All,

I am Senthil, currently working at Cognizant and an alumnus of CEG,
Anna University. We are planning to conduct a BarCamp at CEG on Feb
5th, 2011. The venue is confirmed. But we are yet to talk for
sponsorships, call for presentations, etc. It would be nice if someone
who have experiences at previous BarCamps could share their knowledge
on how to proceed with things.

Hi Senthil
Thanks for writing to us. We are willing to support you in all areas so the planned BarCamp is a success. Essentially a barcamp is a low cost event where we try not to charge the particpants. Since the venue is lined up just see if you can get the venue wifi-ed also ( free of cost ) Once this is done the other costs are

1. Lunch & refreshments ( Rs 50 + 15 ) x 100 participants = Rs 6500
   
2. Backdrop and signs Rs 1500
   
3. LCD projector + screen ( 2 nos ) = Rs 750 x 2
   
4. Miscellany - chart boards market pens etc = Rs 500

Above totals to Rs 10,000. See if you can find a sponsor for this amount. If push comes to shove you can charge Rs 100 per participant so the cost is met.
On presentations in a barcamp nothing to worry. The participants will present different topics. Of other guys dont have any objection then you can use this group to inform interested participants about the barcamp.

is it any specific that barcamps need to be done on Saturdays
missed the last event because of the only reason being Saturday a working day
I m sure that, I m not the only person

If its on a Sunday, it will b helpful for ppl like me who have 6 days work week

I agree with you Srini. But most of them want it on a Sat so Sun they can have for themselves. Majority is democracy right ?
