It's coming

http://barcamp.org/BarCampCapeTown

Roger Saner are you still on board, lemme know bud!

Go forth and spread the word little ones, lets have fun. Remember this
is BarCamp, participation is mandatory! But entrance is free. Thus we
need to sort out sponsors.

In the spirit of the first BarCamp Cape Town in 2006, I want this
thing to be gritty and bootstrapped, so don't expect buffet lunches
and hotel conference venues (unless someone sponsors that in which
case we will be very grateful!)

Chow, I'll keep you guys updated.

Yes, I'm still on board! I learnt lots of cool stuff and met great
people at the last BarCamp I was at, and am quite stoked for another
one. I met with some guys from Quirk earlier this year, and they said
they'd be happy to help where needed, so we can chat with them again
sometime.

So what are our next steps, Conrad?

Cool, Quirk was involved last time.

Well its key to just keep the ball rolling, so rally your contacts, blog, tweet all that. This tends to grow organically once you put it out the door.

The single most important things is to start putting the word out that we are looking for a venue, now that I have announced it we will start seeing signups, so I think next week or two sometime I will put out a call to action for a venue (hopefully a little nicer than last).

Once we get a  sense of a venue then we can finalise the date, right now I just put "Sometime End of Jan 2010"

Keep in touch!

Great, will do the social media thing. I can't remember if Quirk
offered, but what would you think of them as a venue? (Dunno how much
space we'd need).

Cheers
Roger

Hi,

Well I am open to anything, I think we need to cater for around 80 - 100 people.
Not sure what facilities Quirk has.

Hi there,

This is an "Open Sourced" event, i.e nobody owns it but everyone gets involved, so I guess in a way we are all responsible!

However Roger Saner and I are taking the lead at the moment,

Roger Saner <stuff...@gmail.com>
Conrad Strydom <conrad....@gmail.com>

BarCamp "open sources" their organizational process, codifying it in a publicly available wiki. In addition to the BarCamp-branded network, it is also a model for user-generated conferences in other fields or for more specialized applications such as WordCamp and PodCamp to Seattle Mind Camp and THATcamp.

Hey

Well like I added to the BarCamp page, I will do anything I can to help.
But the obvious service I will offer gladly are the photos of the event, plus I will add them to some Independent news/event sites like www.demotix.com

If people are interested I could offer a little talk too, maybe on image workflow or something.

C.
