Hi Guys,

So thats a wrap for the first installment of BarCamp in Cape Town! Man was it fun!

I want to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone that took time out of their schedule to come and visit, you guys where great!
We had roughly 70 people attending over the 2 days, some familar faces on day 2, some new ones.

Thanks for everyone that gave talks, Dewet gives a great overview over on his blog:
http://dewet.org/wordpress/

Then just again, a big Thank You to all the sponsors that made this event possible:

Stormhoek (providing some wine) http://www.stormhoek.com/
Bryght    (sponsoring bandwidth, from overseas!) http://www.bryght.com/
CITI (Nice sarmies and other lunch goodies) http://www.citi.org.za/
Kaluma (sponsoring the venue) http://www.kaluma.com/
Quirk (sponsoring the T-shirts and a projector) http://www.quirk.biz/
Zangu (Some cash from overseas!) http://www.zangu.com/
Briehan Lombaard (Cash) http://eighteenthirtyseven.blogspot.com/
Caffeine (sponsoring the coffee) http://www.caffeinespot.wordpress.com
RSAWeb (sponsoring iBurst Wireless Internet hardware goodies, not sure if we used much but thanks for the effort guys!) http://www.iburstsouthafrica.co.za/
LaVie de Luc (water) http://www.laviedeluc.com/
Huguenot Valley (water)
Peter Langeridge (P/A Equipment)

Then thanks to Mark Forrester the winner of the T-shirt design compo (which we forgot to mention at the event :) ).

Thanks to Wayne from Six Million Dollar (http://sixmilliondollar.com/) for the entertaining media ad reel he was running and the SWF file he drew up to show off our sponsors (Less one - RSAWeb, a late entry). Download here: http://barcamp.org/f/sponsor_animation.swf for those who missed it.

Also thank you to Dave Duarte (http://daveduarte.co.za/) and his mom and sister Max for running the great tuckshop, we all appreciate the effort.

Thanks to everyone else that did their bit, network okes, admin okes, those who stayed later to help pack up, you know who you are ;) etc. etc.

Planning on having a bit of an informal afterparty for those interested, somewhere close to next week Thursday, somewhere in town. Informal drinks after work?
If you are keen drop me a mail so I can get an idea of numbers.

Cheers & see you at the next one. Durban?

Me thinks Caffeine spot could be a good venue? Most of us are getting
free muffins anyways :)

I just phoned Joe (Caffeine guy)... he's not online cos he's running
his ass off serving tables.

He's stoked with the great response to the Barcamp sponsorship and is
installing wireless as fast as he can. Should be up by next week.

There's also no liquour licence at Caffeine spot yet, so he's not
allowed to SELL
wine - but he can give it away.... it wil probably be something like:
"Buy a bowl of peanuts for R10, and get the wine free".

Should be fun:-p

Is anyone not cool with that?

Caffeine is more than happy to host the Barcampers for the follow-up.
I'll book for next Thursday eve... How's 6pm-ish?
Also, perhaps those people that are keen to come along could notify via
this group.

That's a most probable "me too!" here as well.

So I've told Joe at Caffeine (www.caffeinespot.wordpress.com) to expect
around 10 BarCampers on Thursday eve.

I go to a biz-breakfast club there, and we use a little networking
model where we all introduce ourselves and the type of biznis we're
looking for - good for getting conversation rolling.

U guys up for that? It requires that we all get there on time tho - say
6:15pm start?
(perhaps a modified version for Barcamp - e.g. "what cool ideas do you
champion")

Any other suggestions?

Hi,

What if we nake it a smidge later, say like 6:30 to give people time to get to town? I know I normally work till close to six so I would need the 30 minutes to get there and find the place no doubt, which reminds me, where is it again?

Cheers

6:30's cool.

It's on Seapoint Main Road (11 Regent Road), coming from town it's on
your left, in the block after that train-carriage restaurant.
