Hi All,

I have very good news, we have been welcomed to use the school hall at
De Kuilen Primary in Kuilsriver for a very low daily price. We have
the venue over night starting on the 16th of June, which is a public
holiday. You can bring your sleeping bag and hang out with the crowd
or feel free to depart home whenever you feel like it.

The school will be providing as many chairs and tables as they have
available, there is a basic kitchen we can use as well as toilet
facilities. There is secure parking for quite a few vehicles at the
venue.

Dave Duarte has said that he will be running a small tuck shop and/or
warm kitchen for those that need a snack, otherwise MacDonalds, KFC,
and Scooters are around the corner (all within a block).

What we still need to organise:
*2 x Data Projectors
*Lapel Mics and mixing facilities for recording purposes (anyone an expert?)
*Sponsors for the all the leads and powerstrips we need to hire (about
R800 - R1000)
*Still an opportunity for a meal sponsor to come in.
*Sponsorship for liquids, Coffee and Tea, Water etc.
*Anyone got any of those fancy mushroom heaters? The ones that run on gas.
*Bandwidth, we will be using the R2000 that Adrian has pledged on
behalf of Bryght, but we are still looking for more, it will have to
be 3G or some other wireless solution. If you use something like this
at your office, can we borrow a couple gigs?

Those that have discussed sponsorship with me earlier, can you please
come back to me ASAP so we can finalise matters?

Regards

Does the school have an ADSL line? If so, we could bring Uncapped.

Unfortunately not, but we may have other options!

How about arranging for the school to have an ADSL line installed?
There's enough time, and even with installation it would probably work
out cheaper and more reliable than other options, especially with
people able to supply uncapped bandwidth. Would be a nice gift to leave
behind for the school too, if they decide to use it.

Yes, I did think about that, what are the implications in terms of
contractual obligation with telkom?

Anyone got a Telkom contact?

In terms of what those other options are:

3G, worked fine when I tried it out.
There is a chance of getting in with a WISP (they need to signal test)
iBurst has a weakish signal (according to the coverage map)
No idea about Sentech, couldn't register for the map just now.

I'll pop my contact at Telkom a mail in the morning regarding this.

Let us know who she is and the physical address of the venue... better
these contacts work together?
There will be installation charges:

If it's a new line then we need to add telephone line installation to
that too... or maybe Telkom will sponsor it? *sic*

Hi guys,

The phonebook lists it as "Laerskool De Kuilen" and its in Church Str.
or Kerk Straat. (Takes up most of the street, and the church the rest
:))

Let us know what your contact reckons, timing is critical, we can't
commit if they can't do it comfortably in the timeframe, and I reckon
that may mean some prefferential treatment, last I saw the lead time
was in excess of a month..

Once we get our ducks in a row, I can chat to the principal.

Cheers

This Telkom Commercial nonsense again.  The principal of the school needs to apply for the phone line and ADSL connection.  Telkom requires the principal to sign surety for the line (which is just charming).

Do you have a phone number for the school to see if they are on an exchange that can get ADSL?

This is what I was worried about, I don't think it is reasonable to
get the principal to jump through hoops like that for us.

Anyone got wireless equipment to get a wireless link going to town.  I'm sure I can convince an ex-employer who runs an ISP to possibly sponsor bandwidth over a WiFi link.

Telkom do something called "Credit Vetting".  I've a word document from my Telkom contact explaining in detail what each type of entity requires in order to apply for services from Telkom.
