All,

Jim Bruene has just confirmed that Finovate Startup 2009 will happen
on Tue April 28, 2009.

http://www.netbanker.com/2008/12/announcing_the_finovate_conference_series_for_2009_--finovatestartup_and_finovate2009.html

I think this will be quite an exciting week for innovators in
financial services. We should start communicating more heavily on
BarCampBankSF2 and let people from everywhere across the world prepare
to gather for living a ground-breaking moment within particular times.
Maybe we can already start thinking of planning a Meetup in a SF bar
on the Monday evening: a Before FinovateStartup09 party.

Cheers,

Frederic

Hi Kevin,

We missed you last year at BarCampBankSF1 http://barcamp.org/BarCampBankSF1
. I hope that Melanie Swan, who joined us for BCBSF1, will be with us
again for BarCampBankSF2 http://barcamp.org/BarCampBankSF2 .

We are very open to any idea concerning BCBSF2 or events we could
organize during this period. I think that the conjunction of Finovate
Startup 2009 and BCBSF2 provides a formidable opportunity to have many
innovators in fi-services in the same place at the same time. We
should certainly use right now all the creative ideas that could come
up from having all this brain power assembled.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions or throw suggestions.

Cheers,

Frederic

PS: I'd like to remind everyone that actual registration happens on
http://bcbsf2.eventbrite.com/ While we still have time, it would be
great if anyone who knows they'll participate register early so that
we give momentum to the event.

Hey - I just registered. It's fantastic that this is going on right
before Finovate - I am very excited for it - looking forward to
meeting you all.

Hi Sean,

This is indeed very exciting to have this first combination of
Finovate and of a BarCampBank . I think the 2 events are very
complementary: Finovate is a formidable opportunity for innovators to
show their product to financial professionals interested in
innovations, while BarCampBank is meant to have innovators meeting in
an open environment to share and pave the way to building new
concepts, products and services.

I really hope that most of the startups demonstrating on stage at
FinovateStartup on the Tuesday will be able to join us on the
preceding Saturday/Sunday. Startups that were present on
BarCampBankSF1 have shown quite an impressive achievement since then.
On this second session of BarCampBankSF, it will be exciting to
witness the continuation of the steady stream of meaningful
innovations that have been happening in banking and finance during the
last couple of years.

Cheers,

Frederic

Hello BarCampBankers,

Just a quick update for the group:
- 11 registrations so far (including me)
- I've met with Diana Dykstra and it looks like due to WiFi
connectivity issues, she will host us at SFFireCU main office in
Laurel Heights. There are about 3 large spaces that can hold 25-30
people each + a small space that can hold 8 people, and possibly some
offices we could use as break-out rooms. So we'll have a hard limit at
about 90.
- We have set up a spreadsheet (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pFmUcrNyvIy2uI3nJcf9CZQ&hl=en
) where we track people we want to contact or have contacted. Please
access or update to make sure we don't double contact and that we use
the best connection we have. Let me know if you have any issue
accessing the spreadsheet.

New items:
- I'd like to suggest that we UStream the entire BCFSF. The reason is
that I'm assuming that a lot of people will not be able to join due to
personal/corporate budget tightening. We will need one volunteer per
room to

Other:
- Do we really need a PR?
- Anyone has a good contact with Jim Bruene ? I think it would be
worthwhile to let Finovate attendees know that they can also attend
BarCampBankSF during the preceding WE.

Hold off on announcing a site change. We are going out to treasure island in the next couple of weeks to access the situation. But good that we have a back up plan.

Hi Guillaume,

I could email Jim or Eric Mattson if you can send me the particulars on BCBSF.  Last year they publicized it on NetBanker.

Jim has already written this great post mentioning the synchronization
between BCBSF2 and FinovateStartup09

http://www.netbanker.com/2009/02/barcampbank_season_four_alt_banking_conferences_scheduled.html

Part of the question for me is who, among the participants to
Finovate, do we want to inform in priority of the happening of BCBSF2
the previous week-end. My take is that startups demonstrating on stage
at FinovateStartup09 should be an obvious match.

I believe having a PR - or an adequate blurb - would make things much
easier for bloggers we contact. For other BarCampBanks, we've had a
lot more posts when bloggers could use a pre-written piece to start
doing their own post.

Happy Friday the 13th!!

I thought I would give you all an update on BCBSF2

We are working with the Fire Department to install several DSL lines at
the Treasure Island facility so we can have a robust Wi-Fi network
available for those attending.

The physical address is
600 Avenue M
Treasure Island

There is more than enough parking and we (SF Fire CU) will plan on
putting out directional signs so getting to the facility will be easy.
I am not sure if people will need transportation out to the island as I
would think everyone would have a car but if they do we can help in
transporting those that need it.

We are currently making arrangements for lunch which we hope will be an
awesome taco truck.

Morris - I know you were going to work on shirts but the fire department
has agreed to let us purchase official SFFD tee shirts at $7 apiece and
I think that everyone would love to have them. Let me know if you think
this is a bad idea.

I have been running in circles and haven't seen what the current
attendance looks like - can someone give me a number.

I think that is it for now - have a great weekend.

Hi Dina,

Happy Friday 13th to you too!

Thank you for the update. Official count is currently 13 as of people
who registered on http://bcbsf2.eventbrite.com/ But we already know
that a couple of people who have not registered will come.

Anyhow, Guillaume, Kaushal and I have been working on a blurb to send
emails around and an actual PR. We plan starting heavily communicate
on BCBSF2 with these 2 pieces starting on Monday. I've published the
draft of the PR at http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dgnwrhns_6cqkgmdhs
for everyone to review it. Please send me your feedback or
modifications that I'll incorporate. ATTENTION, this link won't work
any longer after next Monday once we have finalized the content of the
PR.

Great week-end to everyone,

Diana,

No-one really answered you about t-shirts. I'll give my opinion since
I'm a t-shirt fan. While I crave having a BCBSF2 t-shirt, I realize
that we may not have a strong demand from other participants
(pleeeaase correct-me on this). So I'd be of course interested by a
SFFD t-shirt (I would in fact be interested by having the 2 types of t-
shirts anyhow). So I don't know what's the best way from a logistic
point of view, but maybe we can use the wiki page, or create a
questionaire on Doodle http://www.doodle.com/ to let people show their
firm order in advance.

Thanks,

Frederic

Frederic & Diana,

I don't think I'll be able to make BCBSF2 (as much as I would love to), but I just thought I'd chime in and say that a SFFD tshirt would be AMAZING. What a wonderful idea! Go for it, I'm sure all the campers would be thrilled!

I don't have the time to 1) develop a survey 2) create and produce an additional t-shirt.

If someone wants to take that on - go right ahead. I will arrange for the SF Fire Department shirts

There is also the option used at BarCampBankBC to create a special
ticket type for t-shirts http://bcbbc.eventbrite.com/ - in this case
money will be cashed in advance (I don't know though about the
eventbrite fee, if it doubles it or not)

Just talked to Dave Snyder of BayPay (http://www.linkedin.com/in/dmsnyder
) and he said he was very excited to attend BarCampBankSF2 to discuss
innovation in payments. More information on BayPay: http://www.paymentsnews.com/baypay/

He will also let me announce BarCampBankSF2 at the BayPay meeting next
Monday (if I can attend). This will surely give the event a lot of
exposure.

That's great!!

As I commented on Erin's post -
http://paymentsviews.com/2009/03/25/mark-your-calendar-barcampbanksf2-is-april-25-26/comment-page-1/
- I have the feeling that will have a lot of discussions about
payments this year. That's cool.

Guillume and BarCampBankSF2 Team,

I am very glad I was contacted about this event. The timing is
excellent, because the BayPay meeting I am moderating on Monday
evening, March 30th, at Google is all about Innovations in Payments.
If you are in the Bay Area, you may already on the mailing list and
our Yahoo! Group or our LinkedIn Group. If you are not on the list,
and would like to attend Monday night, please contact me and you can
be my guest. There is no charge -- we just try to limit attendance to
professionals in the Payments business.

I can be reached at da...@42tek.com.

On March 14th, I facilitated a small discussion group at a similar
type event for Product Managers, called P-Camp. It was held at Yahoo!
in San Jose. See http://www.socialtext.net/p-camp2009/index.cgi.
