uniting BarCampAustralia states

Hello All!

 

This is Christy, part of the organiser team for BarCampSydney. We’re excited about the upcoming event and are keen to do something to unite the states in some manner.

 

Some ideas:

 

• tip of the hat on the day;
• satellite linkup (not likely!), walkie talkies?, short wave radio?;
• 1^st BarCampAustralia t-shirt;
• BarCampAustralia podcast with highlights from each state?;
• Media release about all the states goes to media agencies in all states;
• Drink voucher for a pub in another state!;
• Something!....

 

Any ideas?

We are still working on bandwidth as our hall does not have a phone line
(trap for young players)
Hoping to get some feedback from the cafe to see if we can hook them up
with wireless and do it that way.

I had a thought about those sew on patches.
Thought they might be a cheaper way to do some branding
without the wrangle of sizes and postage that goes with tshirts.
We have been largely doing the event as a byo thing and dont really
have any official sponsorship at this stage.

I will have a look at prices for the badges and see what they are each.
We can record our podcasts and send them in belatedly if we dont get
the bandwidth sorted.

the drink voucher is a nice idea.
the folks in madison usa and in scotland are also barcamping on 3-4 march.
perhaps there is a project challenge we can do and compare our efforts
after the event. a banner or something techie.

definitely interested in doing something linked but may have to be a
bit lateral about the connection.

In Sydney, it looks like we've been able to get Unwired to loan us a WiMAX box so you may want to consider contacting the local Unwired and/or iBurst rep and asking for help.

Best of luck with the event! I'm currently starting serious organisation
for Melbourne's next BarCamp, slated for the 1st and 2nd of March '08.
If any other cities wish to organise one for the same weekend, we can
try for another BarCampAustralia...
