Did this not get posted the first time I submitted it? Sorry if I am
double-posting.

We will have a meeting to plan Barcamp Bangkok 2 on Saturday, August
2nd at 1:00pm. The location will be on or near the Chula campus; I
will post the exact place in soon--but I wanted everybody to have as
much notice as possible to block off their calendars.

We have a lot of people frantically getting things going--but I see a
lot of duplication of effort and people going in opposite directions.
We need to decide exactly what we are trying to achieve, how we will
do it and who is responsible for what.

I want to keep the organizational meetings to exactly two this time:
one on Saturday and one a week before Barcamp Bangkok 2 so we can be
sure all the details are taken care of. I know we are all busy, busy
people and I don't want to waste any time.

Thank you in advance!

Every time we have discussed this away from Twitter many (most?) have felt that Twitter is almost the worst place to discuss BarCamp organisation (other than not discussing it at all) because there is too much noise, no logging (and hence no way to catch up later), no idea who is included in the conversation (so you don't know if you're getting everything). it's great for casual conversation, but is really no place to make decisions.

This list is far better, IRC is better (although the new channel isn't yet logged as it should be) and the meetings are good too (although they need to be written up and posted to the list).

Yes, I agree in that point. Twitter is just for something really urgent and we need quick response. In fact, I just want to send direct message via sms to Aruj if necessary.

I can't go on that day but I'll tell my friends to join the
meeting. :D

One more thing, I don't play twitter. Because I play computer only
when I'm at home (after 22.00) and I don't think it is better than
using cell phone. So if you want to contact me, call 081-five-eight-
three-9141 or leave a message for me.

Thank you.

Let's meet at True Cafe in Siam Paragon Mall on the 3rd floor at
1:00pm. We can discuss what we want to do for Barcamp, how we want to
do it and who will do it.

The Engineering building is closed on Saturday so we will not be able
to see the facilities. I am trying to see if we can get security to
let us in, but I am not sure we can arrange it.

Wifi access nirasnet, Chula Wifi network, requires your network adapter mac address be registered. You have to ask someone who is a student to register it for you.

I heard we can use our own WAPs plugged into wired outlets so we don't
have to register MAC addresses. Sugree is working on getting somebody
to wifi the place for us.

Sorry for my confused talking to you this afternoon. -*-

You can plug your WAP into outlets. I've already asked my faculty. And
on this Sat, you can walk around in my faculty but the room will not
be opened. So if you just want to look at the place to plan about
registration or something that don't have to do inside the rooms, it's
ok.

Sorry again.

Summary of Barcamp Bangkok Planning Meeting #1 (Sat. Aug 2, 2008)

The last thing we did is to look at the space at Chula--but I must
say, it looks awesome! If anybody has some photos, please post links
to them here!

W all agreed that since we have budget and facilities we should try to
do a 2 day Barcamp: Sessions Saturday from 10am - 6pm, some party for
participants to get to socialize and feel more comfortable around each
other, more like friends, then more sessions on Sunday from 10am -
6pm. The idea is that once people see other people present and then
can drink a beer with them--on Day 2 we will have more people
participating.

We might try some new things on Sunday like key signing sessions,
coding workshops, etc.

Jemmy will help to find a place close to Chula that can hold around
200 people for an after-barcamp party.

Jann will help to create some maps from Google Maps that will be put
on the website and handle direction signs for people to find
Engineering building.

We will print about 3 more large banners and 5 sponsor banners to go
underneath. In his absence, Luke was appointed this duty. ;-)

There is no wireless networking at the facilities--but we have wired
Ethernet. Sugree will try to get Kapook to provide the wireless
access points and set up the networking. Does anybody else know any
company that can provide wifi for the day?

Arthit and Sajal will put together a Media Kit about barcamp and try
to get them to cover the event.

Neung has volunteered to do the registration again.

We have the rooms available from 08:00 to 20:00 each day.

*** It looks like we DO NOT have the large auditorium available to us
for registration on Saturday OR Sunday. *** Not only that, it means
there will be another large event going on in the same building. Aruj
is trying to find out what the event will be and if it will prevent us
from using the space downstairs for registration or hanging out.

Distribution of T-shirts. We will hand out tickets for T-shirts at
registration. Then people can go to another table to pick up their T-
shirt.

We will need somebody to be the room manager manager. We need one
person that can organize people to sit in on every session in every
room so they can help presenters set up laptop on projection monitor,
time their session and tell them when the end is coming and get them
off the stage at the end time so the next person can set up. Any
volunteers?
