• setup some staging/testing site so we can adjust and test the new design
• people willing to test - volunteers are welcome :) we need to cover major browsers and platforms

I wanted to try trello.com, so I created a tasklist for BCS web team

Please check it and try to use it for a while. Let me know if you
find it useful and if we should use it for tracking our progress. We
should decide till the next meeting if it is acceptable for us.

I have created a part of the task list on

Please have a look at this page, try to use it (add more notes,
shuffle things, ... whatever ... just do not destroy it). It seems to
be quite intuitive to use.
I would like us to use it as the tool for tracking our web team
progress. Let me know what do you think about it. Is it acceptable?

Hi Lukas,

I would like to sign up for the Web-site team. I've hosted the BCS-site since 2010 and would like to continue to do so for free.

After quite some time I finally managed to take over barcampsaigon.org, so we could use this domain for testing / staging and when we are ready to go live with the new web-site we simply point barcampsaigon.com over to barcampsaigon.org.

I'm able to provide FTP access to the server, but I don't think SSH access will be necessary, but let's see, it all depends on what we have to setup. I also recommend that we continue to use Wordpress, it is very easy to manage and we can create users on different levels, which allows Marketing and other teams to post blog entries or add new pages.

At the last BCS someone was working on a new design for the web-site, but I don't know if this was every completed. I did some design sketches myself which I have attached to this post, where I wanted to re-create the session board with notes-like containers for contents and keep a similar look for historic contents, so that visitors can browse back to past BCS events and see sessions, pictures, slides, sponsors etc.

I hope I will be able to make the next meeting in February, and if you want more people to join in on the Trello, you might want to give people a way to subscribe, I have created an account already, but it doesn't mean I can access the board.

It is wonderful to to have someone with such experience in the web
team.
I got strange feeling that there is no one from the previous web teams
who will share his knowledge.

Hi Lukas,

There hasn't been enough organizers for a whole team just focusing on the web-site in past organized events, I guess that's why, so it's wonderful that many people are interested in doing something about the web-site.

I hope we can agree to continue using the Wordpress site for now, and that the main focus should be on a new design? And see only my previous attachment as a humble design attempt from a non-designer :-)

the problem is probably, that there wasn't a previous web team, but only the designer. Hung. He probably told you, that there is a new website already done by an external company as part of sponsoring. Hung has the wordpress files.

The mailing list here is poorly used and not even everyone is on it or
pays attention to it.

Note all:
It's also not a good idea to have sponsors or outsiders cc to the
group. For one, it's public and discussions between sponsors may not
necessarily be for the public.

As I understood, the Google group were actually revived to have optimum transparency again on the organisation also for outsider and the community. So I see this more as a step back, if you don't use it anymore. But just an outsider's opinion...

I agree though on the sponsoring thing...

I agree with Chris that it's a step back if we leave Google Groups because we want more transparency, but we still have the problem that people don't check it. At the same time email is the central place that people go to find out about what is happening, my main concern is just getting people to the meetings.

Right now it seems that the Sponsoring and Website teams are on track, I think it's time that the Marketing Team gets more active, as the closer we get, the more marketing we will need.

I have been too busy with company projects and thesis at school. I am the person who is supposed to take a look at the wordpress design package but I am just overloaded. I will try it by next week!
