Hi everyone

Just wanted to give update on what's happening.

Abhishek Singh, of Simmortel at SIDBI Innovation & Incubation Centre
(SIIC) - IITK, has initiated talks with SIIC Head and folks there and
shared the plans for BarCampKanpur. It's good news, SIIC have agreed to
host the event and provide facilities (projector, halls,
tea-arrangement, etc) to campers.

Thanks to Abhishek for coming forward, initiating things and taking time
out of his schedule.

By having venue and arrangement brings us closer to our goals i.e.
organizing a successful BarCamp in Kanpur.

This is what I requested to Ma'am Sudha (of SIIC) regarding facilities
we would need:

1) Barcamp is one or two day event, in this case we can just have one
day for it.
2) We might need couple of halls (so parallel sessions can run)
3) We might need a place, where we can make arrangement for lunch (which
would be funded by our sponsors)
4) It would be great, if various department (as Abhishek suggested[1])
can be notified, but it's up to them to participate. We really want it
to be individual's interest and curiosity that make them participate.
5) Registration mechanism is generally Wiki[2] page, where people come
and register. We can put a maximum participant limit, but registration
is generally open till the evening before the event.

Please let me know, if above list is ok and feel free to edit it for
anything, that would make more sense.

I would start another email thread to list down a checklist kind of
things and to discuss it.

[1] Abhishek's suggestions:
I would recommend that the following people be invited
1. The entire MBA students and interested faculty
2. The entire Design students and interested faculty
3. The entire CS students and interested faculty
4. A mail could be sent to all @ iitk, extending an open invit
6. Graduated companies at SIIC, like EI Devices
7. Current companies like Base 9, WRMS, Innovative Embedded, Simplifix
will be surely keen, amongst others.
8. Abdul will add some more companies in Kanpur who are operating in the
internet and/or mobile space.

@Abdul, Sudha Ma'am will need a list of campers who can be invited for
the event. For the logistics, I told her; a lecture hall, projector and
some tea for the participants should be enough. Please add to it if you
think something is amiss.

one suggestion on the venue thingy..
I am wondering if IITK wud have a similar arrangement like the KReSIT building at IITB wherein a small audi was surrounded by multiple smaller class rooms.. thats an ideal arrangement..

Alternatively... 4 - 5 classrooms would also be good.. with a lot of open space around..

Abdul, you'd know abt BCB yeah ? the way it is organised in IIMB.. audis on the ground floor with classrooms on the first and second floor..

Please do not forget the internet.. High Speed internet is a win - win.. for getting ppl to live blog and tweet about the event on the event day.. secured wireless..

Best regards

- Aditi

IITK campus is pretty cool, and I am sure there would be places like
that. However, I would leave this to Abhishek and Dhiresh Nagwani
(Overall Coordinator, E-Cell) to confirm and perhaps shed more light.

Yup! I remember, even hallways can be used.
