The first one was okay, let's see if we can we do better with the second
one. I've setup a page on the wiki for it, with current information.
http://barcamp.org/DemoCampDC2

As noted on the wiki, I'm planning to reserve a room in the same
building again for the first week of April, probably Thursday (4/5). I
think the quality of the venue is tough to beat, although the location
could be more central, and I noted that someone said they could only
make it if it wasn't Mon-Wed. If someone else can reserve a better venue
or strongly prefers another date, then please mention so soon; I plan to
place the reservation this Friday.

Based on the feedback from the first DemoCamp, we need to work on
sticking to the time limits and have a more diverse audience and group
of presenters. I think the latter can be helped by notifying more groups
earlier. Last time most groups weren't notified until a week before
(thanks Katie for sending the messages).

The old page is still up and I added links to the blog entries I'm aware of.

Assuming another venue isn't suggested, would people be okay with
shifting to 6:45 or 7pm? There's apparently a department event going on
that might run up to 6:30 and it would be nice to avoid overlap. I don't
think it's actually a problem for the reservation end of things (I can't
say for sure until I place a request and get a reply).

Hey all,

I'd be really interested in attending DemoCampDC2.

I'm in touch with the RefreshDC crew and I can make sure it gets promoted to that crowd.
http://refresh-dc.org/

We were also talking about an interest in doing a BarCampDC.

Cheers,

I can't make Thursdays in general, but -- like you said -- there was
someone interested who mentioned on the DemoCampDC1 page that he
couldn't make Mondays through Wednesdays, so it all evens out. (It'd
be crazy to try to schedule around every single interested person,
anyway.)

I agree, it was a very good location, and although it isn't central to
DC, it is pretty accessible (finding visitor parking so easily at my
undergrad alma mater, Penn State, would be a laughable idea). Is
food/drink allowed in that classroom? I saw some signs prohibiting
them outside the downstairs lecture halls, but I forgot to look for
one outside our classroom.

Technically, it is (forbidden) and therefore I can't officially condone it.
Although, I personally think an exception for resealable beverages is
reasonable. Also, in practice the rule is broken so often by students,
lecturers, and the department itself ... The real issue is leaving the
room clean, which I consider common courtesy.

Since "the week of April 5th" is almost upon us, I suggest we either
fix a date very soon or postpone DemoCamp2 by at least a week.

Due to the lack of presenters and attendees (probably due to the lack of
announcements), I'm rescheduling it for Wednesday, April 25th. I sent an
announcement to:
* DC LUG
* DC PHP Developers Group
* Dorkbot DC
* Zope/Python Users of DC
* Adams Morgan Ruby Users Group
* DC Media Makers
* DC-Security Geeks

I figure you can take care of DC LinuxChix ;)

Cheers,

There is also a Wash DC Web Standards MeetUp.
http://webstandards.meetup.com/9/

I know a bunch of us at RefreshDC are interested in doing a BarCamp. We also may have a few really good solid leads on potential venues and sponsors.

Would it be of interest to get all interested parties together for a coordination meeting?

I am technically a member of the Standards group on meetup... but have yet to actually attend :) Maybe the April meeting.

Apologies for the self-promotion, but it seems on-topic. I've been
posting a weekly "tech events roundup" on my blog. Here's today's
edition:

http://rossnotes.com/archives/2007/04/02/dc-tech-events-roundup-for-the-week-of-april-2nd/

I already found a few groups in this thread and on the BarCamp wiki
(http://barcamp.org/DC+Area+Geeky+Groups) that I wasn't tracking...
