A DemoCamp is a lighter-weight style of un-conference. A DemoCamp last
only a few hours on a weekday evening, as opposed to a traditional
BarCamp which would usually be a multi-day event and take place on a
weekend. As such, they are easier to organize and tend to happen more
frequently.

perhaps a DemoCampDC would be a good way to gauge/build interest and
find a venue for a BarCamp proper?

I hadn't heard about DemoCamp before; I think it sounds like an
excellent way to build up to a BarCamp. Anyone have ideas for a
venue?

Awesome. I wonder if we should ping some other local discussion lists
about this. I've often felt as if there needs to be more sharing
across these tight little user groups (linux, perl, python, ruby,
etc) and DemoCamp might be a nice place to do it.

Also, there are still some Slashdot meetups occuring around DC, it might be
a neat idea to reach out to the hacker community to see if anyone wants to
come share something really cool with the group.

I've been working on getting the University of Maryland, College
Park[1] to host BarCamp. My problems been a mixture of bureaucracy and
lack of time.
DemoCamp is small enough[2] that I can almost certainly get a lecture
hall for up to 80 people or a classroom for under 30. Either will have
A/V connections and projectors.
[1] http://www.umd.edu
[2] 1 room for 1-1.5 hours, instead of multiple rooms for a day or two
Do you have any contact information for the Slashdot meetups?
On the wiki I've started a list of groups in the DC area that, being
geeky, might be interested in DemoCamp and/or BarCamp:

Feel free to add to and amend it, of course!
