I just heard about this other group of people attempting to organize a
BarCamp in the DC area (with their own separate Google Group, too):

http://barcamp.org/BarCampWashingtonDC

Anyone know what the story with that group is? Maybe we could
coordinate or consolidate or something. Thoughts?

And if you're eager for a BarCamp in the relative near vicinity, we're
running one down in Charlottesville June 15/16. Come on down, it'll
be great fun!

I'm going to be doing some stuff on Solr, Lucene, and Project
Blacklight, etc.

Hi all, Justin Thorp, Jackson Wilkinson, and I met tonight to discuss
the BarCamp DC we're putting together and one of our to-do items was
to reach out to the existing group of people putting on the DC-area
DemoCamps, etc. which, if I'm right, is you guys and girls.

We're certainly not trying to compete with any other efforts and think
it'd be great to consolidate efforts on this. I'm not sure what the
best approach to the wiki would be (merging the two pages, keeping
them separate and using one, etc.), so I'm completely open to
suggestions.

In the last 72 hours we've made a good deal of traction, we've got a
few folks interested in sponsoring and have some solid ideas about how
to get this thing off the ground.

Let me know what you all think and how we can best move forward.
Thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you all!

Merging the two wiki pages and discussion lists sounds like a good idea to me.

What about the new groups. We have this and it appears the
BarCampWashingtonDC has another one also.
Was there any reason the other one was setup separate from this group
in the first place ? I would prefer to consolidate
into one group as well.

It looks like the "other" group has got a solid date for the BarCamp
DC they're organizing: August 11. (Also, they've got a domain of
their own, http://barcampdc.org/.) They haven't announced a venue
yet, but I just wanted to let y'all know that their planning has been
coming along.

Hi all,

Yeah planning for BarCampWashingtonDC is really coming along. I know
I speak for all of the organizers when I say we're really excited
about this.

http://barcamp.org/BarCampWashingtonDC

We're pretty solid with August 11th. We're just solidifying a
venue. It's a bit of a challenge to find a place that's easily
metro accessible, has free wifi, and can house 100+ geeks. We think
we have a pretty good lead but if anyone else has any ideas as a back
up please let me know.

We've also been able to sign up a few sponsors. We're capping
donations at $250. People can donate through our paypal account at
http://barcampdc.org/. If any of you know of business or individual
who'd be interested in sponsoring, please point them to this page and
have them get in contact with me.

https://barcamp.pbwiki.com/BarCampWashingtonDCSponsors

I hope that all of you will attend. The more ideas that are brought
to the table and the more presentations that are given, the better the
event will be. You can sign up at:

https://barcamp.pbwiki.com/BarCampWashingtonDCParticipants
https://barcamp.pbwiki.com/BarCampWashingtonDCSessions

Look forward to meeting you all.

This seems settled:

Fleishman-Hillard Inc.
1615 L Street NW Washington, DC 20036
38.903937, -77.036925

As posted on http://barcampdc.org/

There's also an entry on Upcoming, for folks who use that service:
http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/211115/

I imagine other event entries/pages will be created on other websites,
but the wiki should be used as the central place.

Self-plug: I'm planning to present, but haven't settled on a topic. For
a quick click, here's a poll:
http://www.polldaddy.com/p.asp?p=75053
Offlist e-mail is also welcome.

Cheers,

I know I speak for all of the organizers when I say that we're really excited about the event.

If you signed up for the event or plan on doing so, make sure that you go to the attendee page and put down your tshirt size. We will have free tshirts at the event. Free lunch is in the works as well as other goodies and surprises.

I look forward to meeting all of you.

Thanks,
