I use an HSBCC global card and this allows you to draw cash or use as a debit card. No need to transfer cash. I am sure others banks have similar arrangements.

Hi Elizabeth,

We and loads of others we know use Wise and have a Debit card with them. Their currency transfers are at the market price with no %age taken, just a small fee. I've enclosed a link to them.

:- https://wise.com/u/83d5cc   Using this link should give you a free transfer up to GDP500 or a reduced cost above that amount.

You can hold money in a UK account and an Australian account and make transfers when the rates are best for you then use the debit card in the UK to withdraw cash or to pay accounts.
Best regards,
Mike Goodall

Hi Mike, thank you sounds like I should investigate. My son has an account he is letting us use for transfer . I also have a Latitude credit card that has zero overseas currency charges, I was going to look into as well .
Thank you

I wonder has anyone heard that the UK are stopping payment of pensions to non residents of uk? It was just something a friend told my sister today & I wondered if it were true? Quite disturbing!

I have not heard anything about this. Could I please suggest you ask your sister to ask her friend where she heard of this before passing it on further.

Hi Elizabeth I always use Tor Fx  UK  or they do have an office in Surfers Paradise  +61 7 5560 4444.  or the following link to Website     https://www.torfx.com.au/

They need you to register with them  a member so you can log in to your Tor Fx website  account .  I was a bit nervous at first but rang them and asked them to talk me through it which they where happy to do .There is no charge for international transfers and i have used them about 12 times in the last couple of years . Hope this is of some use to you  ,Regards  Steve Ellis
