Hi Everyone!

As you may have heard, Ian Botham has been appointed trade envoy to Australia: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3j3z7j2zdeo

BPiA are hoping to make contact with him so that they can let him know about the frozen pensions issue, and so they are looking for people who know him, or people who know people who him.  Here is the message that they sent out:

Lord Botham, better known in Australia as Ian Botham, the great cricket allrounder has been appointed UK Trade Envoy to Australia.

Our campaign for "Fair Play for British Pensions" will benefit if we can ensure Lord Botham is aware of the UK government's unfair treatment of British pensioners living in Australia. Support from the famous cricketer, who has excellent connections in high places, can only strengthen our case.

Ian Botham is well known for his support for charitable causes so we know he is a man with a conscience.

Botham will "bat for business down under" and help firms seize the opportunities created by the free trade deal with Australia agreed in outline this year.

But will he bat for BPiA and frozen pensioners?

We potentially might have a path for connecting with Ian Botham via ABC cricket commentator, Jim Maxwell.

Ian Botham has often mentioned how much he enjoyed his cricketing days in Australia.  In addition to his many Test series in Australia, he played District Cricket in 1976-77 in Melbourne for the University of Melbourne Cricket Club and then for Queensland in 1987-88.

You may have played with or against Ian Botham during his time in Australia or you may know someone who has. If you have or know anyone who has such a link, please let us know and we will try to make use of the connection to reach out to Lord Botham.

If you are able to help, please contact Brian at bow...@bigpond.net.au or if you're happy for the BAPA group to know how well connected you are, just reply to this email.

Here's hoping you're a well connected group.

Thanks

Paul
