All information in the link. The organization is UK based, but could help bring greater awareness of the situation.

Kindest,

Neil.

Hi Everyone!

Here is the email that BPiA sent out about this campaign.  Hopefully that helps with what is going on.

Paul

THE MOMENTUM IS GOING OUR WAY.

But I need your help in giving that little extra push.

Whilst we now have more MPs in the UK than ever before actively supporting our campaign to end the frozen pensions policy, there is room for more MPs to join our group of supporters. Please write to your MP and urge them to meet 99-year-old Anne Puckridge in Portcullis House when Anne is there in a couple of weeks rime.

Tell them that it is important that Sir Keir Starmer meets Anne whilst she is in London.

You can add to the pressure on the Prime Minister to meet Anne Puckridge by signing the petition. Click on this image to get to the petition:

Or cut and paste this link: https://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-meet-with-my-99-year-old-ww2-veteran-mum-fighting-to-end-frozen-pensions

If you have already written to your MP, thank you. If they answered to say they cannot respond to your previous letter or email because you don’t currently live in their constituency, ignore what they said. They are wrong. Please write again. We have asked the Speaker to issue a clarifying statement pointing out to MPs that he or she remains responsible for former constituents now living overseas.

If you don’t know who your MP is, please click on this image and enter the postcode for your last address in the UK.

Or cut and paste this link https://members.parliament.uk/FindYourMP

Please, I can’t get the UK government to change the frozen pensions policy by myself. I need EVERY member of British Pensions in Australia to do their bit to push this new government to fulfil their promise and deliver fairness to all.

YOUR MISSION, SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT, IS TO DO THIS:

1.        Please write to your UK MP using one of the templates below (edit to your personal situation).

2.        Please ask every family member, friend or colleague, and everyone you can think of, to write to their UK MP. Again, they can use one of the templates below.

3.        If you have written to your UK MP and not heard back within two weeks please write again and ask them for a response.

4.        Let me know that you have written, and who have written to, by sending me an email at membe...@bpia.org.au  Please let me know what response you receive.

5.        Sign the petition at https://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-meet-with-my-99-year-old-ww2-veteran-mum-fighting-to-end-frozen-pensions

6.        Please forward the https://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-meet-with-my-99-year-old-ww2-veteran-mum-fighting-to-end-frozen-pensions petition to everyone you know including friends, family, neighbours, work colleagues, and ask them to complete it and send it on to everyone they know. We need to get the numbers up on this petition, so it needs to go far and wide. There is no need to make a payment, simply bypass those requests.

Always include your last UK postal code in your email to your MP as well as your Australian address (or local address if you don’t live in Australia). This confirms that you are part of his or her constituency.

The quote in the heading above is from the TV series “Mission Impossible”. Despite the series title and the title of the Tom Cruise movies with the same name, they were always able to successfully complete their mission! The same goes for our campaign.

Let’s make history happen!

Dear [MP NAME]

Thank you for your message confirming your support to bring an end to the discriminatory policy of freezing the pensions for approximately 450,000 overseas pensioners.

With the support of the End Frozen Pensions campaign, a non-profit organisation representing affected British pensioners, Anne Puckridge will be in Westminster on Tuesday, 3rd December to address Parliamentarians. I would be grateful if you would consider briefly attending this ‘drop in’ event as my elected representative.

Anne, who will be 100 in a few weeks’ time, has faced this unjust policy since moving to Calgary at age 76 to be close to her family. She has received £72.50 per week for 23 years, with no annual increase.

Your support will help bring an end to the two-tier system affecting British pensioners living overseas. Approximately 650,000 receive an annual pension uprating, while 450,000 do not. This policy has persisted for over 50 years, and we need your help to bring this injustice to an end.

For details on the time and location of this event, please contact  m...@tendoconsulting.co.uk.

Thank you for being my MP.

Yours sincerely,

 TEMPLATE B

Dear [MP NAME]

I am a constituent of [CONSTITUENCY] now living overseas. Under the Elections Act 2022 you are my MP.

There is an event in Parliament on Tuesday 3rd December led by soon to be 100-year-old World War Two veteran Anne Puckridge, an affected pensioner travelling all the way from Canada to address Parliamentarians on the issue.

I know that the UK State Pension is payable worldwide to those who qualify for it without regard to nationality. To say that state pensions are only uprated for people living outside the United Kingdom where there is a legal requirement to do so, is misleading. Parliament sets the rules for state pension. It doesn’t require the permission or acquiescence of a foreign government to set or amend those rules.

I know that the frozen pensions policy has been the longstanding policy of successive governments for over 70 years. This doesn’t mean that now is not the right time to change the policy.

It is mendacious to say the Department for Work and Pensions has provided clear information for people moving to and living overseas which explains the rules governing State Pension uprating. They have only reluctantly made this information available when the End Frozen Pensions campaign pointed out its absence. Even nowadays, neither HM Revenue & Customs or the DWP write to people paying voluntary contributions with address in affected countries to tell them their eventual pensions will be frozen.

In my case, I wasn’t told that my pension would be frozen.

I know that the frozen pensions policy has been tested in the courts and found to be lawful discrimination. This still does not make ir right.

I know that the government says it has inherited a large deficit in government finances. However, fixing that deficit and fixing the unfairness of the frozen pensions policy are not mutually exclusive options.

Please spare a few minutes of your busy schedule by meeting Anne Puckridge when she is in Westminster. As my elected representative, your attendance will mean a lot to me.

Anne served during World War Two, in all three divisions of the Armed Forces: Army, Navy, and Air Force undertaking intelligence duties. She lived and worked in the UK and paid all her National Insurance dues until she retired. In 2001, at 76 years of age, she moved to Canada to join her family and has been condemned to only receiving a small fraction of her full state pension ever since. Like me, she was unaware of the frozen pensions policy prior to moving abroad.

For details on the time and location of this event, please contact  m...@tendoconsulting.co.uk.

Thank you for being my MP.

Yours sincerely,

 TEMPLATE C

Dear [MP NAME]

I am a resident of [CONSTITUENCY] and my postal code is [XXX].

A parliamentary event lead by soon to be 100-year-old World War Two veteran Anne Puckridge will occur on Tuesday, 3rd December. Anne receives a frozen state pension. It is important to me that you attend this event.

The state pension scheme is full of anomalies. It is ripe for review. Please don’t kick the can down the road by leaving the fixing of these anomalies to your successors.

For example, state pensions are uprated annually to maintain the purchasing power of the pension. This is done for everyone in the UK and for most pensioners living overseas but for a minority of pensioners their state pension is frozen. It can no longer buy what it did when first paid.

State pensions paid to the 750 pensioners resident in Luxembourg, the richest country in the world (measured by per capita GDP), are uprated. State pensions paid to the 60 pensioners resident in Malawi, the poorest country in the Commonwealth, are frozen. Where is the fairness in that? Currently over 300 people from Malawi work in the NHS. Wouldn’t it be a giant gesture to those workers to uprate the state pensions paid to their compatriots? The cost of doing this would be less than £10,000 in 2005/26.

Please find time in your busy schedule to meet Anne. Anne served during World War Two, in all three of the Armed Forces: Army, Navy, and Air Force undertaking intelligence duties. She lived and worked in the UK and paid all her National Insurance contributions until she retired. In 2001, at 76 years of age, she moved to Canada to join her family and has been condemned to only receiving a small fraction of her full state pension ever since. She was unaware of the policy prior to moving abroad.

For details on the time and location of this event, please contact m...@tendoconsulting.co.uk.

Thank you for being my MP.

Yours sincerely,
