I now have my proxy vote set up and approved (for the Lewes E Sussex constituency). I am excited to be able to vote again !! ...at 85 there is not a lot to get excited about!

I have emailed candidates with the below message. It occurs to me that other bapa members may wish to do something similar

From:

xx@xx

30th May 2024

To:

xx – Parliamentary Candidate xx Constituency

xx@xx

Dear  xx,

I am a floating voter in your electorate – a British citizen born and educated.

Now for the first time in many years I can vote in my home country in the Lewes East Sussex constituency where my proxy vote has been approved. I still pay taxes in the UK

where I worked in the NHS and in higher education for over forty years and paid Ni contributions. Some of my children and grandchildren live there.

Successive UK governments have continued the discriminatory injustice  of ‘freezing’ pensions on the basis of country of residence.

What is your position on this issue?  Do you support discrimination against older Brits?

If elected, will you in parliament support and vote for an end to this discrimination – an end to the so called ‘frozen’ pension?

I will consider your response in determining how I shall vote

Yours sincerely

Antony K Hussey

I’ve already tried seeing if sir redwood(the most far right Tory) had any interest: he does not and made it very clear that out of sight out of mind is his position “happy with the governments position”

You might be amused (? Horrified? That he appears to be perfectly happy that the civil service has witheld 2.5 years of my (contributory!) pension as a Principal fir 23 years as well!

Obviously there is absolutely no point in writing to him now I have a vote in his constituency

But -and Napa members should note this- the candidates for the election have until 7/6/24 to declare so once we know who they are I would strongly suggest that ALL gaps members email ALL the candidates once declared

It takes that sort of scale to get any visibility in the noise if an election

Also fyi the despatch of the proxy vote materials is to be mailed on 19/6/24 which gives little time to get mailed votes back to uk so if you have not set up proxies in the uk and sequestered them get postal votes in turn you might not get you vote in!

I’m looking for the list of emails of the members of the parliamentary group and their party affiliations in support of fixing frozen pensions to ensure that emails to them have a very different flavour than others

Just a suggestion!

One should distinguish clearly between a postal vote and a proxy vote. A proxy vote is cast in person by an approved proxy on behalf ot the person represented, In the case of my wife and myself, we have set up permanent proxies.

A postal vote is cast into a post box and may or may not reach the ballot box in time or even at all. For overseas voters the only reliable vote is by proxy

I have found candidates at the following web site
Find your candidates. A parliamentary general election has been called for 4 July. Enter your postcode to find your constituency and candidates.
