Hi Everyone!

In Desley's recent question about contacting HMRC, Desley and Tony
mentioned how they were having trouble receiving a refund from HMRC.
And Valerie had had to get the money paid to a relative to get the money.

I think that a Wise currency transfer account https://wise.com/au/ gives
you a UK bank account number and sort code.

Do any Wise customers in BAPA know if this if correct, and if so, could
Desley and Tony use that (if they wanted to) to get their refunds from HMRC?

Thanks

Paul

I’ve been using OFX (aka ozforex) for many years. To get uk funds to Australia -it generally solves these sorts of awkward problems-even dealing with us banks!

Hi Paul,

My wife and I have been using Wise for many years. We have currency accounts in the UK Australia and the USA held like bank accounts in different currencies (however at he present time there are queries with the USA account due to changing USA regulations so any USA can be still paid into our UK (GBD) accoun,). We also have a Wise card that we can use while in each of the countries similar to a direct debit card.
We can receive payments as though they were being paid into a bank account and transferred between currencies at a flat market rate. with just a small charge. (no huge cut as taken by most of the banks) . I've enclosed a link for anyone who wishes to join Wise and using it the would get their first transfers discounted as well. https://wise.com/invite/dic/michaelg1503

Best regards,

Yes exactly right, First open an account with WISE in your local currency, then open a UK £sterling account with WISE, linked to you local currency account. That will have a UK branch address and a UK sort code - that’s all HMRC need to pay you.
You can also open more WISE accounts in any other currencies you wish, linked to your local account.
You can then easily move money between them easily at good exchange rates.
