Thank you Valerie and Mo for your prompt reply to my “HMRC App” query.

From your comments, it seems pointless me even thinking about using the App, for more than reason - I don’t have the necessary UK identification (eg UK Driving Licence etc to register), nor will the HMRC send messages via the App, so in future, if I have to contact them again, it seems I will have to use snail mail.

Having taken almost 2 years to get a tax refund; money which should not have been deducted in the first place, I am well and truly over the way this Department runs it International Pension Services for Income Tax.

This is just my own comment on the experience I have just gone through.

Hi Desley,
You need a UK driving license. I have one so was able to download and use the app in Australia, My husband only has UK passport and was unable to register for the APP. It is quite useless though if you have already commenced pension. It doesn't give me any information about my lump sum calculations payments or lump sum calculation. I sent a message using it last October and still no reply. HMRC are no longer contactable except by phone, no fax any more, pretty bad for an "International" Department! International DWP department is equally impossible to deal with. They won't send info via messages on the APP and insist they mail it. Ours take 6 weeks to arrive, are usually incorrect and say you have 4 weeks from the date of the letter to raise any complaint about it being wrong!
If anyone has had more success I would be delighted to hear what approach they took. I need to report our lump sums and pensions received in 2025 tax year and complete a UPP determination request but can't get any of the required info from either HMRC or DWP.
Cheers Mo
