On electoral register
Tried to vote
Failed
Previously registered for postal vote
Haven't even received that
Emailed lib dems  and labour in my constituency.
Labour didn't bother to reply
Lib dems said register for proxy
Did so but Sevenoaks refused request
Little point trying
So much for granting expats voting rights over 15 yrs

A pity that Chris had such a problem. I have managed to register and to get my proxy (a friend) accepted and he has sent my postal vote.
After all this time it is a pity that the offerings from whom we must choose leave so little to be desired.

We are the forgot army , that helped to build the UK back up after WW2  now the politicians they hope we will all die so they don't have to give us our pensions and be able to vote , that is all the thanks we get now from these so called politicians in the UK they will help other people but not their own old age people .

I agree with previous posts. We managed to sort out proxy and postal votes prior to leaving UK for Abu Dhabi. Had to do several re registrations to satisfy the ridiculous hoop jumping no doubt in place by the Tories. Always find it very odd that our last postal address must be used when we have absolutely zero links to it now!!!

The choice of most political representatives, especially in current times, leave so little in the way of suitability and ‘back-bone’.

It should be mandatory that ALL voting slips have a simple additional inclusion of a choice to remedy this dilemma : None Of The Above.

It would be coupled with a simple rule, that even all ‘politicians’ could understand, that would be  applied.

If the count of above choice exceeded the ‘winning’ candidate tally then a fresh election would be held.

Now that would be a real game changer !

The Times (of London) today states that at least 45 constituencies in the UK have been affected by postal delays.

This is another reason to choose to have a proxy vote rather than a postal vote, the paperwork for which is already slow in getting to Australia . Of course, it’s a good idea to get your proxy vote established as soon as you can, rather than wait for an election to be on the horizon.

Best wishes to all
Jo

I did get my ballot paper last week. Sent it back same day. The following day I received a postcard sent via Czechoslovakia saying my ballot was on its way.
I had tried to set up a proxy by sending a request via my preferred candidate. My request was not acted upon nor did I receive his manifesto, also requested.
Needless to say, I chose to vote for another candidate!!

Hallo Annie

Sent via Czechoslovakia????  What’s going on???  😳. What country are you living in?

Sorry to hear about the lack of response to your first proxy request. Very poor. Amazing that a candidate would ignore a prospective vote. Says something about the quality of some of our candidates I guess.

I hope you try again for a proxy vote. I still believe it’s a safer option for getting a vote registered, but well done for the quick turnaround of your postal vote. Did you return it by special mail or courier, or just the normal mail service ?  I ask as I sent a birthday card to UK last week via Australia post, & was told it would take up to 4 weeks to arrive. Maybe I should ask that it go via Czechoslovakia next time!

Kind regards

Jo

Hi Jo

I live in Australia. It’s common practice for bulk mail from the UK to be sent via a European country but I’ve never encountered Czechoslovakia previously.  Holland, Austria for example. Don’t ask me why!! Guess it must cost less.

It’s a crazy world we live in.

I believe UK Post Office subs out mass mailings to a third party (Checkoslovakia?) which explains why so many of us have not received our postal votes.

Well done everyone. My wife Maureen and I also received our ballot papers last week. We returned them immediately. However, as we had been previously warned on this forum, there would not be sufficient time for them to get back to the UK if we used the Airmail envelope provided. We paid for Express airmail delivery in the hope that six days would be sufficient time to get to their destination by 8pm on 4th July. We will contact the Barnstable UK tomorrow to check whether they did arrive. We also tried to set up a proxy but failed for similar reasons. It seems the Tories have done everything possible to make sure ex UK residents living in Australian don’t get their legalized votes. We wonder why🤔

Regards

Bruce and Maureen.

'Sevenoaks ' cannot 'refuse' without giving a reason.

Received our postal votes Wed 26th. Filled them in immediately and back to the post office.

I’m in a marginal electorate this time, so was determined to make it count. (First realistic chance it 30 years to ditch a

Tory!!)

I knew there was no chance of getting there on time with regular mail, so paid $37 for priority international mail envelope.

According to tracking, (see below out of interest) it took until Monday to get to the UK, then

only delivered on Wednesday, with one day to spare.

What chance of making your vote count with regular mail!!

Regards

Ian

Apparently I should have cancelled my postal vote by 26/6 and then set up my proxy and applied for a postal proxy. Think they are making the rules up as they go along as well as gerrymandering me into a new constituency.
Did attach Sevenoaks response?
