Hi Everyone!

I've just found out that in July 2025 the UK Government set up a Pensions Commission to review the UK pensions system as a whole and the retirement outcomes it delivers.  The Commission published an interim report in May 2026, and they are accepting comments up until 14 July 2026.

Dennis Reed from Silver Voices recently posted about the interim report in an update to the frozen pensions petition that Silver Voices has on change.org.  Silver Voices has criticised the report because it does not tackle any of the major anomalies and problems in the state pension system, including frozen pensions. They have asked the Commission to consider the scandal of frozen pensions and to recommend to the Government that they conclude reciprocal agreements with as many countries as possible to stamp out these geographical anomalies.  You can read the full update at https://www.change.org/p/tell-the-political-parties-to-end-frozen-pensions/u/34771820

Please consider sending your comments on the interim report to the Pensions Commission.  Please be firm, but also respectful.

You can find the interim report at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/pensions-2050-evidence-and-future-priorities-interim-report  And don't be put off by the 190 page version at the top of that page.  It should be fine to just look at the 25 page easy read version https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6a074106229555d0fe8266c5/Second_Pensions_Commission_Report_Easy_Read.pdf

You can either send your comments by email to views.pen...@dwp.gov.uk or you can use the form at this link.

Due to other responsibilities that I have at the moment I am not going to be able to look at this.  So I really do hope that you will all have a look at the report and then send in your comments either by email to views.pen...@dwp.gov.uk or by using the form at this link.  Please do let the BAPA group know what you say by sending a copy of your comments to bapa...@googlegroups.com

Thanks

Paul

You can find all the information about the Pensions Commission, including the interim report and the terms or reference at https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/the-pensions-commission

Frozen pensions certainly appear to be within the Commission's terms of reference as the Commission has been asked to consider the long-term future of the UK pensions system, including:

  • outcomes and risks for future cohorts of pensioners on current trajectories through to 2050 and beyond
  • how to improve retirement outcomes, especially for those on the lowest incomes and at the greatest risk of poverty or undersaving
  • the role of private pension provision and wider savings, building on the foundation of the State Pension, in delivering financial security in retirement and supporting those approaching retirement
  • the long-term challenges of supporting an ageing population
  • proposals for change beyond the current Parliament, that build on the measures in the Pension Schemes Bill and ensure Britain in the mid-21st Century delivers financial security in retirement through a pensions framework that is strong, fair and sustainable

I have tried the link in Paul's email and it works.  I would recommend everyone to look at the easy version and send their comments via the link.  BPiA is working on an official response from them as a charity representing all British Pensioners in Australia but every individual response will add weight to that.  The easy read says that

" We (the commission) need to come up with ideas for making sure people have enough money when they retire. " !

This might evoke hollow laughter but remember to be respectful, polite and logical in your comments.

Follow this liink to make a comment

or use the links in Paul's email.

I’ve done my special case and posted it here

The reason is that I am the subject of maladministration by the CSP, specifically theft and not a policy ruling

But if you have any other issues than frozen pensions the scope of this commission is quite a bit wider

If you have any other issues or an MP connection in UK cc them requesting that they contribute to this politically fragile state of politics so their input might even be noticed first once

Greetings everybody,

I’m not going to bore you with all that has been done. Suffice to say I sent supplication to to Her Majesty many years ago, to two Prime Misters, Cabinet ministers, MEPs..etc. Nothing worked..sympathies expressed but we’re not going to change what we’ve always done for the last 70 years (it’ll be 80 odd now). HMG has rebutted everything. HMG think they have the legal high ground and can get away with ignoring morality. HMG think they can rebut all supplications because the European Court ruled that only the British Government can decide the pensions paid to their own citizens no other entity has the right to over rule or challenge the Government’s sole responsibility.

Today old news HMG is in a big quagmire. Has depleted the Defence forces. Has not adequately funded all the social necessities, health. education, infrastructure, aged care. And now with a bolshie Israel and a Shiite ideology that hates us and a vile evil oppressive Eastern monolith, British inadequacies are stark and clear to everybody including the enemy. I used to have high hopes UK would before now pay all their pensioners the same without any discrimination no matter where they live. After all wez’ve all paid into it, clear, documented, no argument. …and now with this quagmire I fear there is no hope HMG will reverse 80 years of discrimination. (Britain could of course annul the EU rule,,,outside interference etc)

Apologies for this bleakness.

Dont worry the Australian government hates us as well

And thinks it can get away with it!

Have a go at Angus Taylor and the greens to ramp up the formal government pressure on the basis that it’s costing australia a lot for all those on inadequate au pensions and in home problems and that should be pushed (but remember to ensure that it won’t cut au pensions still further given the many decades we have lost

Might have legs
The coalition has no policies I can detect yet after all

Just by chance I was asked by the French Pensions service to complete an on line questionnaire and add a final comment.. I sent this…(Fingers crossed it might cause a stir!)

I have recommended to the British State Pension Service that they should copy the French who do not discriminate where you live.
J'ai recommandé au service des pensions de l'État britannique de prendre exemple sur les Français qui ne font pas de discrimination fondée sur le lieu de résidence.

I have received yet another “proof I am still alive” document, to have signed by someone of authority and  return to the pensions office. I’m thinking….at almost 80 years of age are they hoping I am not????
I will print off  and include letters of grievances. A rightful pension would be so welcome. What a sad state of affairs. 😥😥
