It was in the summer of 2012 that I visited Lake Como. Balbianello was my favorite spot here. The grounds mesmerized me and so did the views of the lake. A wedding was on at the villa when I arrived and the atmosphere was blissful. After an invigorating walk through the charming scenery, I tasted some divine lemon tart at a rustic Italian kitchen. And after bidding farewell to Balbianello I went back to my hotel for a peaceful sleep with some sweet dreams. I woke up early the next day for a wonderful day in Venice.

Villa Del Balbianello is the most beautiful villa of Lake Como. It has an interesting history. There was once a Franciscan monastery at the very spot of the villa since the early 13th century. It was taken over by a powerful cardinal, Angelo Maria Durini, who began its conversion into a villa. In the 20th century, it was purchased by Guido Monzino, the first Italian to climb Mount Everest, and given the elegant sheen that it retains even today. Apparently, Balbianello is the most visited villa in Italy!
