Dear Shri Ramiahji,

GM.

Banks do not lose anything by updating/upgrading our pension as these are met by the huge corpus fund which is the rertirees’ funds. So the words provisioning, paucity of funds etc are used to cheat us by UFBU and IBA.You have rightly quoted the words that pension is only a deferred wage.GOI may not now prefer to reject SC verdicts for fear of losing popularity.(remember Shah Banu case-Rajiv Gandhi govt taking  decision to challenge-losing popularity later on ac of various factors etc).

My questions are simple. The balance in pension corpus fund has crossed Rs 1.8 lacs crores (I am unable to quote the exact amt as on 31/3/2015-some comrades may please help me). What are the banks going to do with these huge funds?Aren’t these monies belong to us?Why UFBU STILL keeps mum on this factor? After signing the wonderful RN, AIBOC seems to be in a dilemma.(AIBEA is still to come out)But why doesn’t the same AIBOC now rise and ask IBA reg the neglect of retirees despite sumptuous rise in pension corpus fund during 2014-15?Why the present NDA govt which boasted of Ache din etc never bothers about the ailing bank retirees-especially pre 2002 retirees who suffer a lot on ac of financial tightness?AIBRF had submitted memoranda to FM and LS speaker IN PERSON.Why no action is forthcoming?

I have a ready answer for all these. The bank employees/bank retirees are PRESENTLY under organized and hence a neglected lot.In earlier days, we had competent leadership in all the organizations. The authorities have exploited the present situation in a clever way.Look at the central govt employees/retirees.They have outfits with bargaining strength/capacity.They have patronage from the govt on ac of various reasons. But in our case, we have no other extra beneficial factors on hand  rather than organizational activities.

The retirees outfits would have to intensify the ongoing agitations, with renewed attempts for lobbying on the sidelines.

Court verdicts may not come to our rescue.Look at the LIC retirees. The verdict of Rajasthan HC was challenged in SC after wasting so many months.SC passed a stricture to pay 20% to the complainants by the LIC before acceptance of appeal. But nothing materialized so far.Our grace period issue, once handled by SC, has again reached the SC.Remember, there are only three or four banks left, when 40+PSBs already paid it as per the earlier SC verdict. The corporate managements in the Indian financial sector seems to deal the retiree community like the cats dealing with the mice-before killing the mouse , the cat will engage in cruel plays with it.The employees/retirees in the bank/insurance sector are totally dissatisfied for the step motherly treatment.

A thorough revamp of the organizations in banks/insurance sector is the need of the hour, with a plan for joint actions for the welfare of the employees/retirees.But would it take place in the present scenario?A very tough question for which I do not have a ready answer!

Warm reg

Dear Mr Ramachandran,
It has nothing to do with retirees.  For your information:-
As you may be aware bank holidays are to be declared under Negotiable Instruments Act for which necessary statutory formalities are to be
completed with concurrence of RBI as well as Govt of India. Then only IBA can communicate to banks further.
So far no official confirmation on declaring holidays on second and fourth Saturdays has been released by any of the above,or from bank unions.

Since it is 2nd and 4th Saturday retirees are not concerned. If it is 1st Saturday  our Pension would have been postponed to Monday whenever First day of the month falls on Saturday.

Very pertinent point PMji.For retirees, all Saturdays are holidays as they are at home. For those who have taken up some jobs after retirement, it has a point. It is the duty of UFBU to take care of the promises/agreements made in the JN.We shall continue with the concerns of retirees issues!

Today I am reminded of struggle of the bank staff to form a union. way back year 1955,my father a banker, was afraid to join union, as such a thing was frowned upon by the bosses. Today we are in such state of affairs not to organise ourselves. In the first place, fight for the retirees associations right to be heard by IBA on their own initiative and not through unions, and fight to be heard as and when the issue pointed out and for not linking the retirees issues  to bi-partite settlements. This can be achieved only by unity and court interference as the retirees have no tools to use for establishing right of being heard. The retirees in the retirees organisation who are above sixty five years, should give way to recent retirees who can devout time and energy.  The old and not healthy cannot fight, inspite of our continued respect and regard for their earlier historical wars and negotiations, they achieved during their best times.

Dear Citizens

Forward this msg to a minimum of twenty people on your contact list; and in turn ask each of them to do likewise.

In three days, most people in India will have this message.
This is one idea that really should be passed around.

*Reform Act of 2014*

1. No Tenure / No Pension: Parliamentarians collect a salary while in office but should not receive any pay when they're out of office.

2. Parliamentarians should purchase their own retirement plans, just as all Indians do.

3. Parliamentarians should no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Their pay should be linked to the CPI or 3%, whichever is lower.

4. Parliamentarians should lose their current health care system and participate in the same health care system as the Indian people.

5. Parliamentarians with tainted records, criminal charges & convictions, past or present should be summarily banned from the parliament and fighting election on any pretext or the other.
6. Parliamentarians should equally abide by all laws they impose on the Indian people.

7. All contracts with past and present Parliamentarians should be void effective 1/1/15
The Indian people did not make this contract with them. Parliamentarians made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Parliament is an honor, not a lucrative career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so  should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

No surrender of subsidies like LPG by citizens unless all subsidies available to MPs and MLAs withdrawn including subsidised food in Parliament canteen

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people in India to receive the message. Don't you think it's time?

If you agree with the above, pass it on. If not, just delete.

You are one of my 20+ - Please keep it going.
Thanks.

Sir

The scheme covers dependent children . But in the proforma given by the bank (Andhra Bank) nothing is mentioned about dependent children. If you have any knowledge can you kindly enlighten on this. I have a mentally retarded daughter.

Thank you

Y V Ramana Murty
Andhra Bank retiree.

Dear Mr Ramana Murty,
IBA's Medi Claim Insurance  Scheme for existing retirees doesn't cover dependent children. You may go through once again through your own bank's, HR Circular dated 6th Aug 2015 in which it is spelt out clearly that :
"The new scheme would also cover the existing retired officers /employees
and their dependent spouse, subject to payment of premium by them"

Accordingly in the consent letter to join the Medical Insurance scheme of your Bank has asked the details as "of myself and my spouse"

Dear Mr Natarajan,
What ever I have given in reply is based on IBA Medi Clain Insurance Scheme.
The Medi Claim Insurance Scheme is introduced for the benefit of serving employees as per 10th BPS/7th Joint note. This is same and uniform in all banks. The above scheme for employees  is extended to existing retirees also.

First try to understand that there are differences in coverage of insurance as per the scheme for serving employees and retirees and regarding  payment of premium also.

Please go through the BOB circular  SWF/INS/107/1929.dated 10.8.15attaching the scheme uploaded by you once again before coming to judgment. The first page of scheme give in bold letters as follows:

"The new scheme would also cover the existing retired officers /employees
and their dependent spouse, subject to payment of premium by them"

Please furnish for the information of all, where it is mentioned the policy will cover retirees dependent children? Please do not try to confuse members those who are coming with genuine doubts.

Hi

The confusion here is, there is no separate policy details for retirees. The policy details are mainly for serving employees which has reference to coverage for dependent parents / parents-in-law, children etc

But, for retirees, the coverage seem to be restricted only to the pensioner and his/her spouse

A general view is that retirees/pensioners (especially Seniors) are most likely
to not have any children depending upon them , except under certain cases.
May be that is why dependents are not included

I have gone through the BOB circular. Nowhere, it is mentioned that the scheme covers dependent children/parents. IBA issued only one circular whereas it differentiates existing employees and retirees with regard to payment of premium and coverage. Hence, this confusion.
I think what Mr. PM has stated is correct.

Everybody is expecting that the new medical insurance policy will last perpetually. But we need to look at the practical aspect of it. What happens if these insurance companies discontinue the scheme after two or three years or hike the premiums abnormally? Those who shift from one insurance to the new scheme will be in deep trouble.

My dear colleague retirees,
I am not reporting any wrong messages on hearsay statements nor do I have any intention of misguiding anybody. I have a genuine doubt on perpetual continuity of the medical insurance scheme because IBA has said nothing about it  and the insurance companies may decide  on the scheme based on their own economic viability.

Dear Hiri KL,
If you think like that ,that problem is common to all group Mediclaim schemes of not only one bank, but all other banks,RBI and LIC,etc. So let us not bother about such universal problems. We have to cross the river when it comes.
