Since signing minutes on 08.03.24 UFBU and IBA have abandoned  retirees' issues.
Not a single meeting was held to follow up the matter, instead UFBU has made the issue more complicated by filing WP.
Both AIBRF and AIBPARC instead of taking tangible steps resorting age old practice of Dharna, writing letters, etc
At the cost of repetition it is to be noted that unless IBA and UFBU discuss the issue, agree on Updation scheme and send recommendation to  DFS nothing will happen. DFS time and again in reply to RTI queries made it clear that the Bank board is an autonomous body  and is empowered to take decisions on HR matters.
UFBU intentionally makes things complicated by not taking up the issue.
How long can it continue like this?
SC is giving preference to dogs than senior citizens, AIBPARC not ready o withdraw the case.
Both AIBPARC and AIBRF have abandoned pre 2002 retirees and is now focussing on NPS optees so that they get new membership with zero problems and more subscription.

Unless UFBU realises that they are doing injustice to senior retirees, nothing is going to happen. They have sidelined our issues once for all, and there is no hope left. I think IBA is more sympathetic towards the retirees, which is evident from the facts that the sanction of 100%DA and implementation of ex-gratia emanated from them. The UFBU or other retiree's unions have no role in them. Similarly some time will come when IBA, at the instance of the govt will increase the ex-gratia or suggest a formula for updation.
As such we are losing confidence in UFBU and other retirees unions which play second fiddle to their respective parent unions.

Dear Shri Ramachandran ji,

The present lot of pensioners who are covered by the Old Pension Scheme  (BEPR-1995) got back their contribution to PF in full with interest and only the bank's equal contribution was transferred to the pension fund. So also will be the case for those who joined banks upto 31/3/2010.

As against this, those who joined on or after 1/4/2010 and covered by NPS
are contributing 10% of their basic pay, special allowance and DA to the Pension Fund. They will be only getting monthly annuity in the place of pension and there will be no Dearness Relief too. If they opt to get a portion of their contribution back on retirement, the annuity gets reduced proportionately.

It is a well-known fact that UFBU had to accept NPS in the 9th BPS as it had been introduced to all Government employees in April 2003 itself. Of course, to mitigate the losses to a good extent, wage increases were much more liberal from the 10th BPS onwards.

Needless to say, the NPS under which majority of the members of UFBU are covered is much less beneficial than the OPS. So, UFBU perhaps feels that those pensioners under OPS are already getting a very good pension and do not deserve any updation, which, if implemented could jeopardize the future wage increases for their majority members under NPS. There may/could be a change in the attitude of UFBU, if the Unified Pension Scheme (wherein 50% of last drawn Basic is given with DA as pension) is made applicable to PSBs.

The most fortunate people are those who joined banks upto 31 3 2010 as they are not only getting a good salary now but will also get an equally good pension on retirement. The concept of special allowance was introduced from 10th BPS with the full support of UFBU only to reduce their pensions. And this is also why UFBU is not serious to make it eligible for pension as demanded by those under OPS.

Under these circumstances, as rightly stated by you, it is wise to forget about updation and feel content and happy that we got 100% DA and ex-gratia which hiked our pension substantially.

Having said all this, I too, like my fellow pensioners, feel that we deserve updation. But, the stark realities are as stated by me.

Sir, unless the base year is changed as in the case of workmen the probability of secured pension is in vain while setting aside updation.

While agreeing with what you have stated, it is not justifiable to ignore the interest of  a few thousands of pensioners. We do not stand in the way of giving anything to post -2010 employees, but as UFBU represents the pensioners ' cause also, they should get us what is due to us.
All said and done, the UFBU functions in its own way and our wishful thinking, even if  justified may not result in our favour

Mr Ramachandra Bella,

As per Minutes of discussions held between Indian Banks' Association and Unions on 8th March, 2024 it was agreed to  discuss and resolve few issues/demands raised under Charter of Demands for 12th BPS/JN within a maximum period of six months.

Out of 18 such issues , the following items were directly  related to retirees.

1.Updation of Pension for past retirees

-Provision to be made in the Pension Regulations to provide for periodical Updation of Pension along with wage revision settlement/s.

2.Improvements in Pension Scheme

3.Premium on Medical Insurance Policy to be borne by banks.

4.DR scheme to all pensioners to be at the uniform index of 8088 points.

Naturally change of CPI series to 2016 base year as in the case of pensioners under 12th BPS/,JN too may have to happen along with the above.

Nothing have been discussed seriously by Unions with IBA  as per available information and forget about efforts initiated on resolution!Their own time frame of six months too looks funny!

Retirees Apex Organisations are demanding to give them a platform discuss their issues with IBA which too has not been allowed so far.

This is the current reality regarding our long pending issues!
